Can you please show the article where it said used games were going to have an additional cost.  I ask because in the release announcement they said they were going to leave it up to the publishers.  The EXACT same thing Sony said they were going to do with the PS4

Whether it's optional or not surely the issue is that they built the mechanism to allow this as well as restricting who you can lend games to and how often?

The customers who buy the consoles and games certainly didn't ask for it so why build it?  Publishers already have the option of making an online component that gets tied to the initial account that owns the game, forcing those buying second hand to pay for the online component. What MS are doing is providing a means to force this on customers.

And I'm viewing this as somebody who never buys second hand games and is more likely to lend games to somebody than borrow them myself.

Yup, I thought some of the things they were doing sounded cool, but too much BS.

Not to mention that you have to pay additional for used games.

PS4 looks much better IMO.

You don't by chance own a XBox360 but not a PS3 do you?

Here are is one and another one

Of course things may change, but as it stands now there is very little reason, for me at least, to pick up a SBoxOne over a PS4.

Yes I own a 360.  I have also owned many other consoles in the past.  I am just tried of EVERYONE attacking MS for the EXACT same things others are doing.  SONY has not announced an always on line component yet.  The key word is yet.  When was the last time anyone here bought a game that didn't have a release day patch.  I can honestly say I don't remember.  This requires you to be on line.  As long as MS is not going to charge for this privilege/feature (Being sarcastic), I could care less.  Sony has also said they will leave second hand games up to the publishers.  This will most likely mean you will pay an additional fee no matter what.

Sorry, but they are far from the same.  You buy a game for the PS4 you can play it right away.  You may never connect to the net, and you can still play the game.  Sure, it won't be up to date on the latest patch but you can still play the game and you WILL NEVER HAVE TO PAY AN ADDITIONAL FEE.. unless the publishers create some sort of online pass system, not so with the XBoxOne.  With the xBoxOne you have had to check in the past 24 hours to play the game.  You may be right that they aren't as far a part as some are making out to be, but they certainly aren't as close as you think.

And yes, it sounds like you are a XBox fanboy.  FWIW I own both a PS3 and xBox 360 and primarily play on the PS3 as I bought it first and don't like having to pay for XBox live.  But like I said I was intrigued by the XBoxOne at first, but still have found any reason to buy one.

In summer I'd like to keep the console in our Schrebergarten - and there's no internet at all. So that's why I won't buy a XBoxOne...

From Microsoft's Xbox blog:
Xbox wire

Quoting Don Mattrick, President:
Quote:
Last week at E3, the excitement, creativity and future of our industry was on display for a global audience.

For us, the future comes in the form of Xbox One, a system designed to be the best place to play games this year and for many years to come. As is our heritage with Xbox, we designed a system that could take full advantage of advances in technology in order to deliver a breakthrough in game play and entertainment. We imagined a new set of benefits such as easier roaming, family sharing, and new ways to try and buy games. We believe in the benefits of a connected, digital future.

Since unveiling our plans for Xbox One, my team and I have heard directly from many of you, read your comments and listened to your feedback. I would like to take the opportunity today to thank you for your assistance in helping us to reshape the future of Xbox One.

You told us how much you loved the flexibility you have today with games delivered on disc. The ability to lend, share, and resell these games at your discretion is of incredible importance to you. Also important to you is the freedom to play offline, for any length of time, anywhere in the world.

So, today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means:

An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.

Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.

In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console -- there will be no regional restrictions.

These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.

We appreciate your passion, support and willingness to challenge the assumptions of digital licensing and connectivity. While we believe that the majority of people will play games online and access the cloud for both games and entertainment, we will give consumers the choice of both physical and digital content. We have listened and we have heard loud and clear from your feedback that you want the best of both worlds.

Thank you again for your candid feedback. Our team remains committed to listening, taking feedback and delivering a great product for you later this year.

They are now the same as the PS4.

WHile this of course is good news it does show they've been lying to us, their consumers for the last weeks, claiming not only their plan was better than Sony's, but also it was an integral part of their console. In my opinion this sudden change makes them look very untrustworthy. They also refuse to confirm wether or not their original plan is now dead or if they will eventually re-add it, which doesn't seem unlikey as they said they still bnelieve in their vision....

Also, you still need Kinect (always on), what about the cloud. How will they add this, respawn mentioned they can only do Titanfall on X1 beacuse of the cloud, even enemy AI apparently uses the power of the cloud (their words, not mine) (BTW: howcome than the game is also released on X360...). Will they release some games that do need to always be online, and if so, how many games will have this requierment? And if this requierment is there, have they really changed anything?

As common for MS, they are very unclear in the message they provide, and again, they're going to have to do a lot of work to re-earn my trust...

At launch, i'll go for PS4, maybe later, pending the exclusives they have, i'll buy a X1...

Haha, that's funny.

Agreed... I do kind of like the whole entertainment concept.. easily switching between TV feed, game, movie and skype.

But still leaning to the PS4 for now.

Sony appears to have a lot of switching possiblities as well, although i'm not sure about TV options....

Problem for me, as a European, is that a lot of options are not available here. We're only getting Netflix in Holland somewhere this year, and even than it remains to be seen how up-to-date everything is.

We do have MUBI on PS3, but a lot of time when you'd like to watch something it has not been made available for my country, so that's not usefull either... Same with things like Amazon streaming, i tried giving them my money when i wanted to watch Castle or Psych, but they don't accept.... Region locks are unfortunately still a big problem these days...

Yup,  hear you.  It sounds like it's similar to being in Canada... We don't have nearly the selection the US does.  We also don't have Amazon Prime Streaming  In fact I was in the US visiting my brother last summer when Breaking Bad came on.. I missed it so I wanted to rent it from Amazon and watch it online, but they wouldn't let me as my credit card is Canadian.  Even though I was physically in the US, but I guess they block it due to VPNs.

A lot can change between now and release date, but for now I'm leaning to the PS4.
