It would be interesting to know what the issues are - time and resources, health, interest, pending buyout, who knows???? I know I wouldn't mind paying in some way for a major enhancement, if that's the issue. Ditto | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |

| Posted: | | | | When Ken pops on, he has lately been posting in the Android/iOS forums. I cannot really say what needs to be updated on those since I rarely use them. I suppose, for me, unless some sort of big update was currently in the works with definite plans to release it soon (not "maybe by the end of the year") I don't care if he gives us any kinds of updates. But that's just me. If he came out and said there would be no further updates, there would be an uproar of sadness and frustration. If he said something was in the works, members want to know what and when and then get irritated when their issue still wasn't covered or the delay continues. It's hard to throw a bone to this community... most who are interested want the whole steak. "Monday" isn't enough anymore. But, that said, my preference would be for v4.0 with common name fixed even if the release is still a while away (the Contribution Discussion forum would suddenly look empty) rather than v3.9 for lesser fixes released Monday. Quoting widescreenforever: Quote: when the servers go down .. even for a few hours .. I start feeling very, very low in spirit ... Speaking of, has the file transfer speed for file updates slowed for anyone else? Insignificant matter ("Oh no! I have to wait 8 seconds instead of 5.. waaaah!" ) but I have wondered if it somehow was just me. | | | If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

| Posted: | | | | at the end of the day we have no recourse - as long as the servers are running and submissions are being accepted and populated we should take this as a sign that everything is fine. the updates are done manually... a human at invelos reviews every one's notes, votes, and basic content to ensure integrity. This process is still happening basically daily, so I would not worry. Ken has a long standing history of missing release dates, and probably regrets ever giving them. He has chosen silence as his defense, and there have been times when months upon months into years have gone on, and then all of a sudden a beta version hits and the amount of changes are significant. i don't agree with this way to run a business and a community, however I am not the owner / developer... i've just been around 13 years and i've seen how things go...
don't worry until the updates stop or the server stops... then you can begin to worry. | | | -JoN |

I don't expect weekly updates but after 1 1/2 year - nothing????

this will of course be the next step for us who can not give up physical media and have a desire to actually own our collections... however it will be considerably more work and way less fun when we get to this dark day in the future. | | | -JoN |

Yes it's a stable great Software but time moves on ... ios version was updated and android verson published in that time... this operation is a single developer who is no coding in 3 modern formats (and i believe still keeping one antique one running) - from what we have read here on the forums, ken basically learned how to program for ios and android to get this done... it is not uncommon for a year or two to go by without an update... but when it comes it will be huge... ken isnt big on "incremental" and "timely" updates... expect them widely spaced and with release notes a page and a half long. Release Notes for 3.8 the last major update... look how much was changed! | | | -JoN | | | Last edited: by ruineddaydreams |

That's unusual. Ken typically doesn't go that long without some word. On the other hand, it's not so unusual that it causes me concern. For those of us who have been around for 10+ years, I'd guess it would take 3-5 years of no contact before most of us started getting concerned. It sucks. And it likely isn't ever going to change. Don't know what else to say. Ken is Ken and this is sadly normal for him. You can accept it or get upset about it. But either way, expect to hear from him when he has something to say to us and not any sooner. The only positive thing I can say is that when he DOES speak up (about new program releases), he rarely disappoints. Or never. I don't think I've ever seen an update that didn't have something of value for me. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

Maybe Invelos would respond to a request to provide a list, or a way for a user to flag such profiles in their database, or to automate the update of things that do not require human review. Am I making any sense, or did I miss your point? | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! Was updating the John Elliott common name and for every 1 profile (All Localities) that has a credit for him, 10 do not have any art crew except for Production Designer & Art Director. Many do not have any crew except for Director. |

Unfortunately it seems the group of contributors, even for new profiles, appears be shrinking as time goes on. Then again the majority of updates appear to be CLT and BY changes. | | | Last edited: by rdodolak |

This is unfortunate, but a direct consequence of rules as they are now. When I was requested to enter wrong information in the database, this database lost all its interest for me, and I stopped contributing. In fact, to contribute, I would have to backup my correct data, rebuilt wrong profiles, contribute them then restore correct data. Too much work to just give wrong information to other users.... | | | Images from movies |

| Posted: | | | | From a big picture perspective, this is really an industry problem - not an Invelos problem or user problem.
Since I started my computer career in 1970, I have been annoyed by the amount of incompetent data handling by corporations. You've seen it I'm sure: a "data entry" person sitting at a computer terminal, typing in information that they are reading from a computer print out.
It is still that way today, compounded by the sheer mass of data. How ridiculous is it, that we have to manually key in and create incomplete replicas of data that most assuredly exists in the databases of film and production companies?
Not even the Gracenotes of the world can get it right - and they charge humongous fees to access their version of incomplete data.
So, any of you guys who are in the industry or have influence, please do your part to fix the problem at the source: how about open and free access to standardized repositories of what is basically public data - anybody can read it off the credits and covers - why not have an XML file on the DVD as well? This has been spottily implemented as fields in the .IFO files on a DVD, and as a set of disorganized and non-standard files on BDs - I use that info in the DVDPca plugin.
But the industry could do a lot better. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. |
