| | Posted: | | | | Working on a contribution for Volume Three of the Vitaphone Shorts on Warner's Archive collection, I've encountered an "Edith Evans" who definitely is NOT the well-known British actress Dame Edith Evans. I need to supply a birth year for her, and all I can find is at the following link: http://www.jazzage1920s.com/raymayer/raymayer.php which gives her birth year as 1898. Her 1898 birthdate is also listed at IMDB, but we're not allowed to use that as a resource. Dame Edith Evans' birth year is listed at several sites such as https://www.britannica.com/biography/Edith-Evans as 1888. Also on http://www.biography.com/people/edith-evans-9289641#!. As there is more documentation for her, I'm tempted to add her birth year and leave my new "Edith Evans" without a birth year, as the documentation for the latter is so sparse.

| | Posted: | | | | We are discouraged to provide the IMDB as single source. As a supporting source the IMDB is pretty often used around here. - And, not to forget, the quality of IMDB birth years inreased very well over the last years...
Further more, from the technical standpoint it is easier to change a birth year later on, than to assign a new one: to assign a birth to a person who does not have assigned one, you have to check who the person is - changing one birth year to another does not need any checking...
Overall I only hesitate to list a poorly documented birth year, if it is to be doubted (different source list different BYs; same BYs for different persons; etc.).
