PS: And may New Line burn in hell for not letting him direct "The Hobbit"... Not neccessarily true anymore. A week or so ago, Jackson and New Line settled the lawsuits on past payments, and all is becoming nice between them again. | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

A week or so ago, Jackson and New Line settled the lawsuits on past payments, and all is becoming nice between them again. Yes, this arrived out of the blue: - - - Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, studio founder Bob Shaye commented on the matter: Eager to move ahead with "The Hobbit," New Line has quietly been trying to mend fences with "Rings" filmmaker Peter Jackson, who has sued the company over his share of profits from the first "Rings" films. When asked if it was true that company insiders had been in talks with Jackson's reps, Shaye replied, " Yes, that's a fair statement. Notwithstanding our personal quarrels, I really respect and admire Peter and would love for him to be creatively involved in some way in 'The Hobbit.'" - - - Quite funny considering Shady Shaye's previous comments: "It will never happen during my watch." | | | Erik

Link? Not really, just AVS. New Line, for whatever reason, wants to keep LotR on HD "a secret" as much as possible. But a few brief comments from the good folks working on it: "Mind you, this is not an easy encode where you fire the encoder and the next day ship the title. Care is needed to get the absolute best quality. Fortunately, while I can’t say much about LOTR in public, I can tell you that a ton of care is being applied to its encoding. And the results are very nice from what I hear.""LOTR is going through super careful encoding and processing. The project will go on for many months, and ton of that time is spent outside of compression. I am confident everyone who is a fan of the movie and high fidelity audio and video will be most impressed.""Given how many huge LOTR fans there are on the VC-1 development team, we wouldn't sleep until it looked perfect!" | | | Erik

I watch them once a year. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. We will teach it to them again. Though it take a thousand years, we will be free. - Citizen G'Kar |

| Posted: | | | | I believe New Line are a HD-DVD exclusive studio, so if you've got that maybe you should wait for the HD versions to come out before forking out! | | | Last edited: by northbloke |

They should be spectacular when they do get released and hopefully it will be the full extended versions from the get go, otherwise I'll just wait. I'm getting real tired of the double and triple dip and won't play that game anymore. If a given film or set of films was released in standard def in delux, extended, or whatever, I expect the Hi-Def to be issued that way. I'm not going to buy PJ's King Kong until the extended edition is released. And if never, the standard def extended edition with proper up scaling to 1080P is very nice. |
