If I've got this right, the US version just finishes earlier than the full version. It ends when she's in the Landrover by the side of the road. So you don't get the "twist" at the end. I hope that's vague enough not to spoil things!
What? That takes the bite right out! Why do studios seem to think American audiences are either too thick to understand something or too sensitive to want to understand it? Good grief.
Anyone reading this thread who fancies seeing The Descent should get the R2, no matter where they are. If you don't like the ending, you can always press "Stop". It sounds like that's all the Region 1 distributors did. This is exactly what the US ending is. I already had the R2 disc and went to special pre-release screening here in the States. I then read an interview with director Marshall who said he was asked to change the ending by US distributers, and liked his new one too. An even better reason to get the UK 2 disc SE is the full bitrate DTS track. Man, that is one effective soundtrack and makes the movie that much scarier. If I ever want the US ending I'll press stop at the right spot, but why? The original ending is perfect and I don't see how a decent sequel could be made from either one. |
