I remembered this morning that for their US releases, Mad Max was redubbed into American accents, and some scenes heavy in Aussie slang were re-shot for The Castle.  Which versions do you foreigners choose to watch?

Without hunting through my collection, the only film I can think of that I haven't seen mentioned yet in this thread is "The Man Who Sued God".

Billy Connelly (?sp) is one of our adoptees.

I don't think anyone has mentioned "The Lighthorsemen" yet.  That film is positively screaming out for a proper dvd release.  I currently am refusing to buy the less-than 2.35:1 versions out there - sticking with my laserdisc until this gets the treatment it deserves.

Many, many years ago, while working in G.E.'s Advanced Systems and Technology Op. we got a new boss from Australia. We were to meet at a local watering hole, when he showed up with a beer in each lapel pocket we knew everything was okay.
We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own.

A couple others that come to mind:

The Proposition
Chopper
Blue Murder (Miniseries)
The Castle
The Dish
Ten Canoes
The Hard Word
Breaker Morant
Feed
The Interview

What did you think of these movies (or at least the ones you've seen)?  For anyone outside of Australia who liked The Castle you're at an advantage... you don't have to listen to Michael Caton running his "Tell him he's dreaming" line into the ground in advertising.

Do any of you above posters (or anyone following this) have Australian faves / Australian content in their collections?

I have The Castle and Chopper. I really like both movies, but havnt seen the other ones listed.

Also what about Priscilla Queen Of The Desert, Cyclone Tracy - 1986 TV Miniseries, The Night Prowler with Ruth Cracknell, Society Murders which is based on a true story, Wolf Creek and The Story Of The Kelly Gang.
Some Australian TV shows that I have on DVD are: Young Talent Time, Fast Forward, Full Frontal, Mother And Son, The Norman Gunston Show, The Footy Show, The Chasers War On Everything, CNNNN, Bushfire Summer, The Comedy Company, Home And Away, Neighbours, Kath And Kim, Outback House, Prisoner Cell Block H, Round The Twist and Rove.

Music - INXS and Kylie Minogue.

I'm surprised that in 2 pages of thread, nobody has admitted to owning a Blue Heelers DVD, or even that they've watched it.

Until Mad Max came out on DVD, I didn't have much choice, it was either with American accents or nothing.  Now that I have the DVD with the Australian track, I certainly prefer it.

I hate it when the distributors here think we need to  be protected from "foreign"-sounding speakers.  Like when the Discovery Channel re-edited Planet Earth to replace the David Attenborough narrative with Sigourney Weaver.  She's okay, but she's no David Attenborough.  I never watched Planet Earth on Discovery for just that reason.

They've done the same thing with Meerkat Manor which airs on Animal Planet (owned by the same folk as Discovery Channel).  They substituted Sean Astin as narrator for David Attenborough (though the Australian version has someone else doing the narrative, I believe).  I've gotten hooked on it despite Sean Astin.  I just wish I had the chance to see how it goes with Attenborough's narration.

The version we've got here is voiced by Bill Nighy. Could be just different seasons though, I haven't watched it lately.

I was just on the SBS website (govt. broadcaster that tends to show arthouse/foreign/cult materials) and stumbled across a series of indigenous-themed online short films:

Bit of Black Business

Also, it's a real shame that the ABC (another government broadcaster) are charging so much for these!

My mistake.  I thought the UK narration was done by David Attenborough.  I believe you're right about BIll Nighy doing it in the UK.  The Australian version narration was done by Mike Goldman, according to IMDb.
