Absolutely agree with you, 5 minutes of coverage alternating with 5 minutes of commercials is more than I care to sit still for. It was obvious when they returned from commercial breaks a lot of what appeared to be a dazzler of a show was missed. I turned it off after the first hour. A pity you had commercials. The BBC showed it over here and it was good to watch in full. |

| Posted: | | | | I attempted to cut my 30GB transfer. 28 commercial cuts! I gave up twice and went about doing some other things and came back. My cutting software also gave up on me twice. And my HDD grudgingly disapproved this nonsense treatment.
All in all it was about 3:30h of useful material from the NBC broadcast.
And as a somewhat related opinion I have to say that while watching the Olympics, the water polo games broadcast shows the most artifacts, and the limits of MPEG-2 bitrate applied. Is BBC broadcasting this in h264 in UK? |

| Posted: | | | | What I do not understand, is why are there so many empty seats? Especially when some of these empty seats are in blocks of seats. Are these Corporate seats that do not get used? Why are they empty when there are so many people who would love to occupy them? I plan to try and get this addressed properly in my hometown here,, as we are home to 2010 Winter Olympics.,, . Perhaps the answer shoud be., Any seats not taken 10 minutes before game time wil be given away for free.. That'll get those coroporate boys a shot in the arm to get their act together and use those 'free tickets' that are valued at up to and over couple hundred dollars.. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. | Posted: | | | | I had noticed the empty seats at many of the venues -- you'd think a country with 1.3 billion people would be be able to provide some decent crowds!
Also here in the US on the NBC Olympics website we can watch any events we want for free if you're a subscriber to a participating cable company. I watched some of the women's team archery last night and view my first ever men's field hockey as well. No announcers really (actually better in some cases)but they do update the scores and provide replays of the best plays.
The power of the internet is something to behold!

| Posted: | | | | Wasn't pretty enough?! For cryin' out loud, a 7 year old girl can sing for the world but isn't pretty enough to have her face shown on TV so they use a body/face double. Good grief. It just goes to show that China has truly entered the mainstream world society where style and what we can see rules over substance and the truth of things. Now, they are just like us. |

| Posted: | | | | It just shows how desperate the Chinese Government is to present a positive image to the world. Why would they need to work so hard to do that?...........
Maybe because their real image is pretty darn ugly!
Not unusual for a dictatorship!

I wont go into details in case some of you haven't watched the events of yesterday. There is a report this morning detailing one of his secrets, 12,000 calories a day! linkI feel for him when, in a few years, his metabolism changes. |

But...but...the Olympics IS politics . Exactly right! Anybody who thinks the Chinese aren't playing this for every bit of prestige and political clout they can get just doesn't understand how the world works. That should be obvious from some of the stunts they've pulled already -- like lip synching the little girl during the opening ceremony. They had a huge contest to find a kid for that set piece, which was won by a 10 year old. They dissed her because she was "too old." Then, the one who actually did the singing (a 7 year old) got body doubled by the 9 year old we all saw, because she wasn't photogenic enough. Then they pulled a Milli Vanilli on us. Not political? Who said the Chinese government isn't playing this for every bit of prestige and political clout they can get? I didn't see a single person make that claim. Every government, when they host the Olympics, does that and we all know it. But this thread isn't about government and politics, it is about the people and the athletics...hence the title. All anybody asked is that you take your political discussion to another thread and leave this one for the people who can look past the politics and enjoy the Olympics for what it is supposed to be... | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
