Granted the public school system is by no means perfect, but in my opinion the parents are mainly to be blamed for the failure of the kids.

I'm glad we agree on this.  It was your characterization that the "kids are stupid" that I had a problem with.

Things are definately looking grim for 2009...

Caterpillar cutting 20,000 jobs.

Nextel cutting 8,000 jobs in 1st Quarter.

Home Depot eliminating 7,000 jobs, closing Expo Chain.

Add specialty glass maker Corning to the list of Job cuts.

Really sorry to hear this, Eserage!

Good luck in finding new employment. I really hope you find something soon!

Over here the situation is hardly any better than on the other side of the pond. Philips, the electronics company, is cutting 6,000 jobs, ING Bank 7,000 etc. etc.

Add Kodak to the list...cutting 3,500-4,500 from the payroll

Add Panasonic to the list...closing 27 plants and laying off 15,000 by next year

Automaker Nissan to cut 20,000 jobs.

I know the auto industry worldwide is getting hit real hard. My ex brother-in-law in Spain was laid off from Mercedes not too long ago. And my brother-in-law here Stateside who works for a large GM dealership as their parts manager says they are struggling as well.

After having our hours reduced to 3 days/pw (from 5) for the last month or so we were told today that there would be potential redundencies of 1 person from the shift workers (of which I am one) and 2 people from the day workers.  Not as bad as a full closure like some are experiencing but very bad news noneless.

America:
US Senate eases 'trade war' bill
The US Senate has voted to soften a controversial "Buy American" clause in an economic recovery package, after warnings it might spark a trade war.

Britain:
Kicks Iceland while shes down

That second news was the first thing that came to my mind, after reading the first news. I'm buying finnish, id expect Americans to buy American. If nothing else, its ecological.
