Quote: While it may be over-reacting to compare this statement to the "SS" or the "KGB", Not so much overreacting as utter idiocy.
From the transscript Goodguy linked:
Quote: a “civilian national security force” that could “deploy teams that combine agricultural specialists and engineers and linguists and cultural specialists who are prepared to go into some of the most dangerous areas alongside our military.” This sounds like something between military and development worker, for assigments outside the US, so this has absolutely nothing to do with KGB or SS.

I hope tomorrow morning Skip, you don't have too much of a 'hangover' to come on the boards here, and give a hearty welcome to the new President of the USA . I am sure Skip will NEVER be too busy to welcome President Elect McCain. |

Don't trust Youtube either.. it can be edited.. you know it has been fun this past week to see the McCain camp just absolutley freaked out about Obama's democrats coming in to do 'Change' .., Yup there will be change allright.. and there is gonna be a lot of 'sore losers' out there.. The National Guard is off getting shot at in Iraq and Afghanistan, and they're the ones that used to respond to local emergencies. Since they've been claimed by the military, someone civilian needs to be in this country do these things.
You want to talk unconstitutional? What about wiretapping everyone's conversations like the Bush Administration has been doing. Or holding people in prison forever with no charges? The Republicans spit on the Constitution with regularity. Um, well, um but isn't that part of the National Guards job? By George I believe it is. They are still soldiers FIRST |

Responsible gun owners do not load their guns, jump in their pick up trucks and yell yee haw every time they do not get their way, if they did it would simply be called the United States of North America . Plus aren't you Canadian, in other words this is none of your business until tomorrow when there is a new President-Elect. How dare you be so damn arrogant. You act like Canada is perfect and that there is no political turmoil there, why don't you worry about your country's problems and let us worry about ours. | | | Last edited: by Lord Of The Sith |

What would you compare it to, Hal? He did say that it would be just as powerful, just as strong and just as well funded. To me, that would include air and ground forces along with all of the equipment and armament.
I just don't know what he means, Dan. His "rhetoric" sometimes takes over his brain, I think.
The whole tone of that speech had to do with mobilizing the American people to engage in "public service". I got the impression that he was "stealing" some of the JFK platform, i.e. the Peace Corps, and got carried away with his oratory.
I hope I'm not being naive! That's the problem -- he spews out all this stuff that sounds great at first blush, but when you go back and reread it, he doesn't really say anything you can hang your hat on. That seems to be his modus operandi. He talks in oratorical terms, and snows everybody with it, but really doesn't say mcuh. | | | John

Amen! Yeah right - cause America is well known to let "other countries" sort out their own problems. Please! Can anyone say "World Police"?! | | | Berak

I won't say that i will give a President obama a heart welcome, I will watch him and his administration extraordinarily closely along with the next Congress. I would love to have him prove me wrong...but i wouldn't lay money that he will do it. I know what the democrat Congress has in mind for an agenda and i suspect I know what a President Obama will do, and i stand ready to act as I deem it necessary or not. I am not by nature a violent person, so I will exhaust any and all political means at my disposal FIRST. But if Obama turns out to be what I suspect, he is going to his hands very full and i won't be the only one. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here
