Seriously, though, as I replace DVDs with Blu ray, I donate the DVDs to the VA Hospital (Veteran's Administration, for you non-U.S. folks).

I'm like you hal9g. Although I just give my old dvd's and I've replaced with Blu-ray to my brother. Thankfully I'm done replacing them till more of my collection get's released on Blu-ray. There's some that I will not upgrade to till they get a different release (The Whole Bloody Affair for Kill Bill, and a original language transfer with subtitles for Drunken Master II)

I try to "thin the herd" on a fairly regular basis, as I seem to keep buying faster than I watch. As with many others, I usually just give them away as the prices to be had in the used market are generally not worth the time and effort to go thru the hassle of a sale, packaging, shipping, etc.

Of course, most of the ones I give away are the Big Lots $3 blind buys.  Special editions, Criterions, sets, and the like stay in the collection.

I think this summer we are going to have a huge garage sell.  It's time to "thin the herd" as some have said.

Given many of the answers on this thread, I wonder why this forum has a Trading Post...
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

The small number of Australian users on this forum, and the fact that many/most R1 users don't have PAL-capable players/sets keeps me from using it. Any Australian (overseas postage is too expensive from here) users who are interested in going through my trash are welcome to PM me and I'll get a list to them.

I just so happen to looking (casually and if the price is right, not a must-have, break-open-the-bank kind of disc) for the Austrailian Prom Night 3 dvd. If that happens to be on your trade or sale list then I would believe in stars alligning and all that kinda stuff.
Nest time I'll read the post I reply to.

Years back when dvd's were worth selling I sold some, usually ones that I had bought not realizing I already had them (before I had dvd profiler to keep track). I have a few dvd's to sel at the marketsl, due to upgrading them on bluray, where I'll sell them for a $1 or $2 each, but usually I just give them to my younger cousins as its not really worth the hassle of ebay and that.

I sold about 70 titles onece and I ened up re-buying every last one of them, even the ones I did not like.  I needed money to go on a trip, I would never, every do it again.

I did the same thing once, needing money for a trip (though I only sold about 50, and I've only bought about 1/2 of them back).

Like you, I'll never do it again.

I just paid $12.00 shipping ($22.00 totla US dollars) for "Care Bears Adventures In Wonderland" from Austrila.  Although I did get a decent deal when I bought the Outrageous Fortune DVDs from New Zealand.

I get shipping from the UK cheaper than local postage. It's a joke!
Also, I suspect you bought from a retailer, who would have got a discounted postage price.

I actually tried to go through a ratailer in New Zealand who want $18.00 US, so I went throught ebay from an Austrilian vendor.  Yet the last time I ordered from an Austrialn vendor it was only $3.00.  I picked up A Austrlian region 4 copy of Sample People at a local used movie store by some miracle.

You don;t sell your DVDs, if truly a collector.
No, you find really remote spot and bury them..
That way after the next earth's cataclysm and
civilization has rebuilt, some scientist can then
find them and spend the rest of his life studying them.
He will determine rightly so that they are of some religious
significance, write many a papers and win many prizes.

I use to all the time. I would sell some movies I didn't like or could live without to buy a film that just came out that I wanted. I however don't anymore as I pretty much got my collection down to what I want. I really only sell DVDs now if I replace it with a better version or if I got a duplicate in a box set. I just recently sold my single version of Silent Night, Deadly Night  because I picked up the OOP double feature of of the film with it's sequel.
Never judge a movie by its sequel or remake

Yes I have already sold some dvds from my collection I have in double. For example I have purchased the first season and after they sell the integrale that is cheaper than buying the seasons individually. I have also already sold some normal edition of movies if I bought a collector edition after for example.
Regards
Cyrille
