I already have my Scotish, now American, late night host and I like him better than Leno and Conan combined. You talking about Craig Ferguson? The reason he went for citizenship was pretty straight forward. The opportunity's to him over here are very limited with Scotland having virtually no major media and what media there is being highly English and London based he would have no chance at getting a prime time slot over here. He be lucky to get something on Have I Got News For You Or Mock The Week. So the fact he got such a fantastic opportunity in America was incredibly lucky and fair play to him for it. He has toned down on his Scottishness and worked into something which is unique and compelling American audiences yet not culturally alienating. So it's more or less an act and the Craig Ferguson you get on TV is not like the one in real life. In real life he is probably Scots through and through. As we like to say here you can take the boy out of Scotland but you can't take Scotland out the boy. I found it funny when he brought his sister on kind of giving her that look tone down on the Scots lol. | | | Last edited: by ShinyDiscGuy |

Quote: On the other hand, some NBC nitwits decided that it was time for Leno to go, despite the fact that he continued to draw a bigger audience than any of his competition. I believe it was NBC who approached Leno to retire, not Leno asking to do so. And as the time for his retirement approched (sound like Bret Favre to anyone?), Leno didn't want to do so.
You need to watch that video as it certainly didn't seem that way when Leno made the announcement in 2004. Like I said, I don't have any way to view the video at this time. And even if I did, I wouln't take as fact anything he said in 2004. Public statements are often more political than factual. Look, I prefer Conan to Jay, so I'm looking forward to wherever he lands. Frankly, I didn't like the Tonight show as much as I did his older program. He didn't seem comfortable, like he was trying too hard to reach the wider audience Tonight provided. I think he has been much more of his old self during these past weeks than the 6 months leading up to now. I just don't believe Jay to be the villain you Conanistas seem to consider him. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges. I don't know about any of that, though I do plan on reading his book in hopes of understanding him further. Whether or not he tones down his Scottishness, I don't know. I do know that when he and Billy Connolly get togeher, they seem pretty fricking Scottish to me. Of course, my exposure to the Scotts is a tad limited. The point I was making is, I already have a favorite Scotish late night host, so didn't need another one. Though I would't say 'no' if he was a decent enough host. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. Well actually i was praising him in the sense how he managed to adapt his act for a whole other culture so successfully. He is really good at his job and i do watch clips of him. |

So you haven't seen it, have no idea what he says or how he says it but you aren't going to believe it? Quoting kdh1949: Quote: I just don't believe Jay to be the villain you Conanistas seem to consider him. Conanistas?? I have seen his show several times since this came down but have not once prior to it. I do admit I find Conan funnier than Jay, but that is as far as my bias goes. You can cut Jay all the slack you want but if he didn't force his way back onto the Tonight Show then Conan would still have his job. I'm pretty sure NBC didn't blackmail or put a gun to Jay's head, Jay changed his mind and didn't want to retire. But he made a deal and now he is backtracking on it and because so Conan only got 7 months on the Tonight Show after waiting patiently for 5 years. Sure the NBC execs are the driving reason behind this, but that doesn't make Jay any less complicit. He knew what was going to happen and he allowed Conan to get screwed over. Sure Conan is getting paid nicely for it, I'd gladly get screwed over for even 1% of the 32 Million buyout he got. So it's not like I'm weeping for Conan, but anyone that tries to deflect from Jay just cracks me up. He knew what he was doing when he signed his last 5 year deal and he knew what he was doing when he got Conan ousted. | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server | | | Last edited: by DoubleDownAgain |

| Posted: | | | | Leno must have a lot more power than I though he did. Here I thought it was the poor news ratings, which caused the affiliates to complain, that drove NBC to move Leno back to 11:35. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
