I really hate to say any of these are "scary" as I never (even as a kid) found horror to be scary... so I am not a good judge of that. But here is some opinions on what I have in my collection
TV Movies:Summer of Fear
Region 1
Released: 2/18/2003
Full Frame 1.33
I enjoyed this one... made in 1978 and stars Linda Blair. About a witch that moves in with a family believing she is a relative.
Invitation to Hell
Region 1
Released: 8/19/2003
Full Frame 1.33
This one is pretty good though not quite as good as the one above it. A couple move into a gated community,
Someone's Watching Me!
Regions 1, 2, 3, 4
Released: 9/25/2007
Anamorphic 1.85
This one is from 1978...
L.A. newcomer Leigh Michaels moves into a chic high-rise apartment building. She loves the view. So does the Peeping Tom who lives somewhere in the adjacent tower.
I enjoyed it.
Nick Knight
All Regions
Released: 3/4/2003
Full Frame 1.33
This one is a TV movie that started the series Forever Knight (Vampire Cop). But with different actors. I enjoyed it... but I pretty much love anything with Vampires.
Quicksilver Highway
Region 1
Released: 5/17/2005
Full Frame 1.33
This one is pretty good... but I have seen better. it is an Anthology Horror.
Slayer
Region 1
Released: 11/21/2006
Anamorphic 1.78
Another vampire movie I enjoyed. Though they do play with the legend some (vampires out during the day). It originally aired on the Sci-Fi Channel in 2006. And for the superhero fans... Lynda Carter... who played Wonder Woman in the '70s... has a small part in this one.
Full Eclipse
Region 1
Released: 8/21/2001
Anamorphic 1.85
A different take on werewolves. I liked it. But be warned... this one was made for premium cable TV... so it has more violence/gore and sex then any of the others on this list.
Trilogy of Terror
All Regions
Released: 8/29/2006
Full Frame 1.33
Been recommended already... but I must add mine to the list! Excellent!
The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer
All Regions
Released: 10/14/2003
Full Frame 1.33
A very good TV Movie prequel to the excellent miniseries Rose Red
Shadow Zone: The Undead Express
All Regions
Released: 8/8/2006
Full Frame 1.33
This one is great for the younger crowd! It is kind of a beginners vampire movie. Think of it as maybe a little worse then goosebumps episodes.
Bay Cove
Region 1
Released: 5/4/2004
Full Frame 1.33
I really enjoyed this one... a movie about a coven of Satan worshipers. Has many familiar faces in it!
TV MiniseriesStephen King's The Stand
Region 1
Released: 10/26/1999
Full Frame 1.33
Excellent... but not sure if it will keep a kid's attention for so long. (6hrs)
Carrie
Region 1
Released: 8/12/2003
Full Frame 1.33
This miniseries version of the movie is pretty good... but not as good as the original movie.
Stephen King's Storm of the Century
Region 1
Released: 6/22/1999
Full Frame 1.33
This one I really enjoyed. And with the theme of the movie having a bit to do with kids it may keep their attention for the 4 plus hours.
Stephen King's Rose Red
All Regions
Released: 5/14/2002
Full Frame 1.33
This one is excellent... haunted house miniseries. just over 4hrs... but something is always happening.
Salem's Lot.
Region 1
Released: 10/12/2004
Anamorphic 1.78
This is the remake of the '70s miniseries. It is good... but I think the original may be the way to go.
Stephen King's It
Regions 1, 2, 3, 4
Released: 10/1/2002
Anamorphic 1.78
This one I liked a lot. May bore kids in some slow parts. And if anything like my daughter they will never watch it (has a fear of clowns).
Salem's Lot
Region 1
Released: 10/26/1999
Full Frame 1.33
A great miniseries from 1979. One of the first things involving vampires that I remember seeing.
Stephen King's The Shining
Regions 1, 2, 3, 4
Released: 1/7/2003
Anamorphic 1.85
I really liked this version of The Shining... I think I liked it even more then the movie version!
Dead Set
All Regions
Released: 11/3/2008
Anamorphic 1.78
A UK miniseries about zombies. Pretty gory... and little nudity if any of that is a problem (don't know what age we are talking here).
Any questions about any of the above... just let me know. It has been a while on some of these... but I have seen them all.
