| Posted: | | | | About making films in Australia and the critics (taken from a review about 'Acolytes' DVD Bits critic David Murcott):
It is a well-known fact there is a special circle in hell reserved for those who dare to criticise an Australian film. It is notoriously difficult to get a film made in this country, and more than one Aussie director has commented that upon finally arranging the necessary funding they did not know whether they would have the requisite energy to actually see the shooting process through to completion. Critics like Margaret Pomeranz have admitted for this reason they intentionally take it easy on local fare, and a modest domestic population means monumental box office returns are never a real possibility for films released only on these shores.
I like that phrase about the energy :-) |

| Posted: | | | | Comedy films are very hit and miss we me mostly miss it takes a lot to make me laugh and keep me engaged in it. Today i seen Kick A$$ and well for me it never stood up to it's name. Any one over 18 i think will be horribly disappointed by it.
Playing to already covered ground of parodying the modern super hero films already done and ok slightly more badly in Super Hero Movie but it's hardly giant leap up.
It also takes far to long for the characters and story to develop as well. Maybe giving more emphasis to Nic Cages character would have given a good blend of serious and comedy would have allowed for an adult audience to connect to it more and making it far more original in the process.
Can't fault Chloe Moretz and her action scenes though seriously how she delt with the adult themes she had to act was truly remarkable. Something to look forward to perhaps in future years. | | | Last edited: by ShinyDiscGuy |
