Quote: I do not care at all about further bonus materials and don't expect that they shot Behind The Scenes in HD in 1999, I do not care about fancy cases, toy figures, booklets, limited postcards or similar junk. But something other than a spectacular picture and sound quality of the extended feature films would be a great disappointment. I'd think it'd be nice if they could do something more than just throw the cases inside a cardboard box at least. I think they need to be creative. That's just what I'm talking about: a stellar restoration! If it's not impeccable and absolutely perfect, I will hate it and wait until the price is like 25 bucks for the set until I buy it. Also I will never again trust the studio responsible. I can't remember which one it is. The thing is that ther IS going to be lots of extras. To put them on nine DVD's is a joke. It's not even environmentally friendly. If they include extras it should be in HD, or not at all. And it should be on BD. "Combo releases" are worthless to me. I'm paying for Blu-ray, nothing else. Either way, I think we have all the right in the world to crave that the transfer will be, like I said, nothing else but reference quality. Anything but that should be a criminal act. | | | Last edited: by MikaLove |

The creative phase and myth-enshrouded period is over since the fabulous release of the special extended edition of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. It's only about business and tech specs now, we also have the right to simply not buy a low-quality commercial product. | | | Don't confuse while the film is playing with when the film is played. | Posted: | | | | My guess is the 9 DVDs are the same extras from the original EE release and digital copies. |

I think it was at TheDigitalBits where I read, that while no new extras are to e expected (Jackson is busy with The Hobbit), at least we will get those from both previous releases. So those who only had one of those (which will be most people) will get something "new". | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

| Posted: | | | | I currently own just the DVD versions of the films. I've been holding out on purchasing the Blu-ray Trilogy in anticipation of the Extended Versions on Blu-ray. The hell if I'm going to be duped again into double-dipping on anything . It would be nice if the release date was before Christmas . | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

| Posted: | | | | I'm with 8ball on this one. I only hope I can make myself wait until the extended Blu-rays hit the shelf before I watch them again. That's going to be hard, but I'm gonna to try. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |

| Posted: | | | | I remember reading that the reason it has taken so long to come out with the Blu-Ray versions is that they wanted to make sure that the cut is in the best quality available.
I wasn't interested in the theatrical version so I never thought to check the quality of it but if it is outstanding, we can expect the extended cut to be the same or better. |

Amazon.com has details of what extras are on what sets in a nice table: Based on the table of contents at Amazon, I'll wait for movie only versions of the EE on blu-ray. I see no point in buying the dvds of the extras again.... | | | Just in from somewhere left of the middle of nowhere The Holy See Hell |

| Posted: | | | | I find the discussion of the LOTR films interesting. I like the theatrical versions, and still own the first DVDs with them, as well as my preferred extended editions. I have the Blu-ray set of the theatrical versions and have ordered the Blu-ray set of the extended versions. We all seem to agree that the theatrical films were good (a few of us may not like them), but that the extended editions are better.
Yet when we discuss the first three Star Wars films made, we become polar opposites, disliking both the changes in plot details (Han shot first!) and finding little joy in the CGI enhancements. We want what was orginally shown in the theaters, not the rehashed versions.
The same oddness is found in our attitudes toward other revised films... preference for the revised versions of Blade Runner, dislike of the remade version of E.T.
We like what we like, and we are inconsistant about this. | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.
