Twister, I bought it from Electronics Boutique for $40 AUD.

DVDs sure were expensive back then. I remember pay up to $50 for some 2 disc sets back in those days.

Here is an old photo I found of my little set up before I started collecting DVDs. This photo was taken either late 1999 or early 2000.

When did you start collecting DVDs?
21 Sept 1999

How old were you?
53

What was the fist DVD you ever owned?
The Matrix

Was there ever a time that you grew tired of collecting and considered stopping?
NEVER HAPPEN!

I started out collecting Beta, VHS, CED and Laser Discs in early 1982.
I loved Laser Discs, such an improvement over tape.

As I said I bought my first DVD in Sept 99, knowing this was going to be around a long time.

I had well over 100 DVDs before I even got my first DVD player (Sony DVP-NS900V) which I still have.

Now I have a Sony Playstation 3.

When did you start collecting DVDs?
August 2001... about 3 months before I got my first player (a hardware region hacked Samsung that my (now) wife bought me for an early Christmas present). At the time I never really thought I'd get "into" DVD but thought I'd get a player for watching some of my favourite movies only... but I was very, very wrong!

How old were you?
35

What was the fist DVD you ever owned?
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon... and astonishingly I still haven't watched it!

Was there ever a time that you grew tired of collecting and considered stopping?
Not really, no. I have such a large number on my "too be watched" list now that I almost always wait until there's a good price drop instead of buying on release like I used to (I averaged more than 75% off RRP last year... it was 43% in 2002), but there's still plenty on my Wish List that I want to own.

When did you start collecting DVDs?

Memorial Day, 2001

How old were you?

31

What was the fist DVD you ever owned?

I bought 2 at the same time: THE MUMMY (1999) and MATRIX (1999)

Was there ever a time that you grew tired of collecting and considered stopping?

Nope!  If anything, I thought of stopping because my collection was too out of control.

FWIW it took me ages to track down a decent release of that movie; not released ever in the UK as far as I know, and the R1 is cut and 4:3. Eventually got the Australian release which is uncut and 1.78:1 anamorphic... and oddly enough NTSC.

More of a time were I could not afford to collect any and was working to pay off debit.  Once I cleared debit went a little nuts picking up stuff I missed for a while.  Now I'm trying to stop picking stuff up to clear out my back log.

When did you start collecting DVDs?
Somewhere around the end of September 1999.

How old were you?
51.

What was the fist DVD you ever owned?
The Matrix and the Matthew Broderick Godzilla, but the first watched was The Matrix. I had just set up my first player and had to take a business trip to Canada and told my wife to buy a couple DVDs while I was away. Ironically, number 1000 was The Matrix Reloaded. At the time, we were buying an average of 5 to 9 every Tuesday at Best Buy. We were at 996, so I found 3 that we were going to buy and I went through the checkout and bought those 3, then my wife followed with Reloaded. So, my wife bought #1–The Matrix and she also bought #1000–The Matrix Reloaded.

Was there ever a time that you grew tired of collecting and considered stopping?
Absolutely not. The only reason we don't buy as many as we used to is the economy.

Braveheart

Buying less at the moment. Only when I find cool dvd's in the bargain bins. I need to cut back on expenses, and DVD/Blu-Ray has to suffer from it.
Unfortunately, I can't use DVDprofiler at the moment due to lack of a Windows computer.

That was one of my first DVDs, it was a birthday gift. I upgraded to the 15th Anniversary Blu-ray edition just yesterday.

Not really, although nowadays I try to keep my unwatched titles under 10000 minutes.
