I dare say the limited releases of the original theatrical versions of the first 3 Star Wars films will become rare.
I never got Return of the Jedi
Which im rather annoyed about now
But i will get it sooner or later.
Wow, I didn't realize how rare the Original Trilogy has gotten ($100+ on Amazon Marketplace and $60+ on ebay). I paid $35 at Wal-Mart back in November... I swear I saw these all in Best Buy a few weeks ago, but happened to do a "dvd oop" search on ebay today and saw the Best Buy tin set for $100 (no tins in store since release week), with a bid already. I got 2 of those in preperation for this to happen, just took longer than I thought. |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Alien Redrum: Quote: Off the top of my head, I have the first pressing of Swamp Thing (which was pulled because of nudity) and two copies of the first pressing of The Devil's Advocate. Still kick myself lightly for selling Swamp Thing off, but I really hated that movie and decided not keep stuff there's little to no chance of ever watching again no matter how rare. This was right after it went OOP, I found a copy for $12 or so, watched it and ebay'd for around $40. Of course now I'm willing to give another chance, but not without the nudity. Same thing happened with "The Angel Collection". Thankfully those are about to get re-issued (minus the deleted scenes, but I recall those being short and unwatchable anyway). I also have the first Devil's Advocate disc, which I happened to check out a few nights ago to see if it still works. It's know that most of those were pressed at a factory which used cheap crappy glue to secure the layers of the disc, and many have started to erode, causing the layers to seperate and leaving most copies un-playable. I do have the files all ripped to my computer just in case mine ever dies, although I'm beginning to think I got lucky and got a copy from another factory that will survive. It was a couple years back at least where I was reading about most copies not working. I think demand would/should be much higher for this, but the average dvd buyer probably doesn't know about it being censored or that an un-censored version ever existed. It took a while to hunt that down, and that was in 2003 when I got mine from ebay. I still have never seen a copy of this one in any store, and I always check the backs for the second red banner (when I see snappers, now I only see it in keepcase so I don't have to bother checking). Just sucks that when it finally hits blu it will more than likely be censored. I doubt they'll drop lots of coin to show the statue, or even know if that is an option after the lawsut over the first dvds. Does yours still play? |

Does yours still play? You know, I haven't bothered to check. I just picked them up because I knew they were OOP. I should give them a spin to see what's what. Didn't know about the Angel set. Just watched that the other night and dug it all over again. Don't think I'd sell it (unless it's coming out on Blu). | | | Reviewer, HorrorTalk.com

I guess you are referring to the Adrienne Barbeau bathing scene . If you have region free player, you can get the UK version. This one is still available at a very low price. It has that scene intact. I checked the Dutch version, but it has the UK rating logo's as well, and the same runtime according to DVD Profiler (89 minutes, 4 minutes less as the US version, due to PAL speedup) | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm

Yeah, those screens are the same changes, but you can tell without even watching the disc. The back cover is easiest to spot. Common has a black background and a red box with the features listed. The old one has a second red box between the film credits and small print stating "the large white sculpture...not endorsed...Ex Nihilo You can check out the scans in the program with this UPC: 085391509028 There's also some numbering on the disc itself. On the bottom in small print, it starts with 15090, Region 1, 144 Mins, etc. The reissues have a different number in this spot, although I can't recall what it is right now. You can also make out this number in the inner layer rings on the back center of the disc. One is backwards, the other forwards but reads "15090V2.1.A", which I have no idea what it means. I thought maybe layer 2, but the other backwards one is 15090V2.1.B. That "V2" sounds wrong but it is the right disc to have, or maybe it was due to the lawsuit and them getting ok'd the release a certain ammount uncensored, but knowing the common would be edited. i don't have a common one to compare to. | | | Last edited: by bigdaddyhorse |

| Posted: | | | | With Star Wars Blu-rays coming out, I realized I have the Original Trilogy DVD set (with the original theatrical releases) which is now OOP. On Amazon's Third Party, it's going for $126 new and $90 used. Now I wish I had picked up an extra copy at Wal Mart to sell since I only paid $36... |

It just didn't hold up for me and was disappointing, leaving nothing but some silly songs stuck in my head. The price will probably come back down as more people get back around to it and find it doesn't hold up, at least for me it didn't. After seeing the Jackson films, this is just too kiddy for me. I put it with Krull and Flash Gordon, films I loved when I was a kid that I don't even like now. |

| Posted: | | | | "Rare" status is so fluid, especially as long as we keep developing new physical media. I have a few that were rare at one time, but most have been re-released in either another DVD edition or a Blu-Ray (or likely will be in the near future):
Rebecca (2-disc Criterion Collection) Notorious (Criterion Collection) The Lion King (2-disc Platinum Edition) The Lion King 2 The Lion King 1 1/2 Salem's Lot Aladdin (2-disc Platinum Edition) Aladdin & the King of Thieves Aladdin: The Return of Jafar Fright Night Part 2 (I still can't believe there was no blu-ray release of the original or sequel with the FN remake in theaters)
I believe I also had The Hobbit at one time, but like others found I didn't enjoy it at all as an adult, so I got rid of it. | | | Last edited: by Mixmaster_Mal |

| Posted: | | | | Was doing a little checking and noticed that I had some off-beat stuff that seems to be commanding stupid prices. I'm a sucker for any Hollywood/studio history stuff. It appears when this stuff goes out of print, the value just skyrockets. For example:
Walt: The Man Behind the Myth New $118.98 Used $52.50 A Personal Journey With Martin Scorsese Through American Movies New $119.99 Used $44.50 20th Century Fox: The First 50 Years New $117.02 Used $49.99 20th Century Fox: The Blockbuster Years New $42.89 Used $34.98 A Century of Science Fiction Used $79.98 Flesh and Blood: The Heritage of Hammer Horror New $59.77 Used $22.18
Then of course there's:
42nd Street Forever! Volume 1: Horror on 42nd Street New $99.95 Used $53.54
However, that one was a limited press, one print only deal so it doesn't really count.
I find this stuff far more interesting because there is every reason to believe material like this will never make it's way to Blu, or streaming for that matter.
Like everyone else, I've got the usual stack of Paramount and MGM titles that have gone out of print over the years since I've been collecting along with the handful of OOP Criterions. | | | Last edited: by mdnitoil |
