Taking a guess, it's because until the common and cheap availability of progressive flat panels, it wasn't really a selling point. As I recall, many Oppo 83 owners who were seeking to upgrade to the 93 were putting the pressure on Oppo to carry the 24 fps feature over to the 93/95, but Oppo wouldn't budge, stating that the feature didn't produce results to match their quality standards. To be fair, the results with NTSC discs on my 83 are indeed mixed (on PAL it doesn't work anyway), but on a well-authored disc to me the result is clearly visible and positive. Might be a chicken-or-egg issue: since so few players support the feature, disc authors don't care to do it properly. | | | | Last edited: by dee1959jay |

| | Posted: | | | | From reading on on it a bit more, it looks like we were both a bit right. The telecining is part of the MPEG-2 standard, not the DVD-Video standard. This means if you look at the VOB files, it will report 29.97 fps, even though it's really stored as 23.976, because the conversion is part of the video metadata. This means that displaying at 24 fps would require using a non-standard MPEG 2 decoder. That may be why we don't see it more. | | | | Last edited: by Ace_of_Sevens |

Looks like they've changed their mind: "Added "DVD 24p Conversion". This feature restores the original 24 film frames from DVD-Video and outputs it as 1080p/24Hz. To enable this feature, enter the Video Setup in the Setup Menu, set the "1080p24 Output" to be "Auto" or "On", and set the "DVD 24p Conversion" to be "On".
