I still see lots of contributions and many new contributors.

But, I agree with the fact that the online database needs a lot of work. I am still finding many profiles that don't even contain basic data.

I know that there are those who don't agree with or like "the rules". But, there are bound to be areas that can still be contributed.

Rating details, Overviews that don't contain spelling mistakes, etc. One can still help others by filling in any sections that follow invelos' guidelines while keeping in line with one's local database.

I do still contribute and I do it within the bounds of the rules.

But to be honest I only contribute fields I am personally interested in.

For example, I don't care for studios or MC. I even actively remove them from my profiles again, so my export XML doesn't grow unnecessarily large (it's 84 megs already and I need it to update phpDVDProfiler).

So you will never see me contribute studios or MC.

The same goes for Rating details. I have a one-person collection, I don't even need the rating age, less alone the info that movie X contains "gratuitous language".

It's great for those interested that these fields are there but I won't put the effort into contributing such fields because I don't fill them out in the first place.

This thread shows what a fricking d-bag Ken is...  Over two weeks ago this topic was started... and has Ken weighed in at all?  Nope.  Nada.  Zip.

Without the tons (speculation of the time the entire community has spent?) of hours the community has spent on filing his database that drives his programs where would he be?  Nowhere.  The program itself would be useless to the vast majority of users.  Sure some would be diligent to create their data themselves, but to most of us we would have never purchased the product without the data.

A big middle finger towards Ken and Invelos.

DoubleDownAgain,

How about I send you the $29.95 you paid for the program and you stop spreading your negativity. If you're not happy with the program, stop using it and find something else, but quit trying to ruin it for others.

I'll pm you my paypal account!

I"m not going to stop using the program, I love it in itself.

I'm not trying to "ruin" it... actually quite the opposite.  Imagine a world where you ask a question about the rules and SOMEONE (with actual authority) actually answers and makes a ruling... a precedent so everyone that contributes knows EXACTLY how to do it.  It's obvious Ken has no desire to do that.. so he ignores the forums and lets endless arguing and bickering continue, he's stated that it's a waste of his time.  He doesn't care, plain and simple.  Which is plainly obvious because he hasn't responded to this thread.

Are you happy with the level of service Ken/Invelos is offering?  I see and appreciate the work that you do.... you are probably int he top 10 names I see when I vote on contributions.  But to be honest? Most of them are a waste of time due to bad program design.  I applaud and commend you on your diligence but if the program was redesigned the majority of your submissions would be unneeded.  While I'm not advocating you to stop submitting your contributions, as they are helpful to the DB in the current state... wouldn't it be nice to know that you are fixing the cast/crew for all the profiles for the movie? And not just one of out of a hundred?

I'm just asking Ken to be more open to the community that his program DEPENDS on....  I don't get why you think I'm being negative towards the program or community...  I'm not, just for Ken.

If I have it wrong Ken.... Please let me know.  But he won't.. he'll ignore this post just as most of the community.

Are you not?

A long time ago (possibly even still in Intervocative days, so that it wasn't even Ken to get the money) you spent U$ 30.
Since then you were frequently using the several online services provided by this company (and possibly its predecessor). This online services are having an uptime which is close to 100%.
Believe it or not: bandwidth costs money, a good hosting service (that provides near 100% uptime) costs money ... In fact almost everything that has to do with Computers costs money. But especially Service costs ... (guessed right!) Money

What do you think, when were your 30 bucks used up?

When was the last time you used the implemented Amazon-button, by this providing Ken with a (very little) extra income?

Granted, you are not the one to blame for the business model chosen by Invelos (Intervocative), but looking at the world with reality in mind usually helps to see things as they are.

In this case it means: You are already getting much more than your money's worth, so please (with a lot of sugar and a cream-topping) stop bickering.
Accept that (most likely) Ken has downgraded Invelos from status "Job" to status "Hobby", and if only because he and Gerri have to eat too.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Yes, and for a low price, I got an excellent program that fulfills quite all my wishes.

About this point, I disagree. At the beginning, I used online services to contribute most of my profiles, generally totally new profiles since most didn't exist in the database. At that time, rules allowed to enter correct data, and I was happy to contribute. Things turned bad in 2008 when new rules asked to enter wrong data, and I stopped using online. So I do not consider I frequently use Invelos services. Even with no new development, I shall use the program as I do now on a local basis.

Let's hope that Ken, family and friends are OK. You never know what issues a person may be dealing with. Automatically assuming bad motives to a person just because we don't know what is going on is unjustified. Given his track record of providing more value for the money that just about any other product I have purchased, I am willing to cut him a whole lot of slack.

Personal story: I came into the office (years ago) all hot and bothered that some guy had fallen short on his responsibilities. I reamed him. He politely apologized and told me that recovering from having his house burn down had been a challenge. Somehow, I hadn't heard about it - I was so focused on myself.

You just never know ...

What do you think, when were your 30 bucks used up?

You seem to forget that for some of us that $30 isn't the only thing we have "given" for Invelos. I've spent many, many hours building my profiles and then I've contributed my work for Invelos, for free. This program doesn't hold any commercial value without the online db. I've done almost 10 000 profile contributions and 2100 image contributions during my years with DVDP. I only contribute for releases I own/have owned and maybe 80% of profiles I own, I have been the initial contributor.

With all this in mind do you think that it is too much to ask to get some instructions/rulings so I can continue to work for free? We have to remember that this isn't a "community effort". We contribute our work for Invelos and the only one getting any profit for that is company called Invelos, since they own the db. I don't complain. It's my choice and I can stop contributing any time I like. It just would be FAIR to know where is Invelos/DVDP going. That $30 is just a fraction of what I have given to Invelos.

Just out of curiosity. What is the wrong data required by rules?

Of course, this just isn't about Ken. It's about company named Invelos.

We don't and it's not our business at all. When I'm a customer for a company I appreciate a good customer service. Invelos customer service sucks. I don't care why, but the fact is that it does.

I don't assume anything and nor should I need to. Companies can/should inform their customers in general level. There's no need for personal details about people behind the company.

If Invelos is based on one or more persons full time job, I don't know any company which has got more slack than Invelos. If it's not, why can't they just say that this is a hobby project and not a serious company, which should be treated as one. It would be much easier for them and their customers. Remember, most of us aren't friends with the company owners/eployees. The only relationship is company - customer.

A sad one, and proves a point. If that guy would have been a representive for Invelos he/she would have just kept hes/her mouth shut. How would you feel about that? I don't need to know WHY some things happen or doesn't. It just would be normal customer service to tell if they are going to happen at all.
