| Posted: | | | | Portugal has been in a World Cup final how many times? Sorry, none. Two matches for third place, winning third in 1966, finishing fourth in 2006. Second remains better than third, especially if you do it three times.
If all World Cup non-winning teams are equal, then the United States is as good as the Dutch... which is ridiculous. | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Portugal has been in a World Cup final how many times? Exactly my point. My statement stands... any team not winning the WC goes home in defeat. Wasn't specifically referring to Holland....but since you bring it up, Portugal have exactly the same number of WCs as Holland---zero. So the Netherlands finished in 2nd place 3 times, and Portugal have a couple of top 4 finishes, who cares? Even the United States team that you speak of has a third place finish, and so what? Ask Brazil if they care about finishing 2nd to Uruguay in 1950 (they care they didn't win, second place itself was/is meaningless). | | | Last edited: by JMGuer |

If all World Cup non-winning teams are equal, then the United States is as good as the Dutch... which is ridiculous. Well, actually, as it now stands.... Fifa WCPortugal - 0 WC Netherlands - 0 Fifa U-20 WCPortugal - 2 WC Netherlands - 0 Fifa WCUnited States - 0 WC Netherlands - 0 Fifa Women's WCUnited States - 2 WC Netherlands - 0 Fifa Women's U-20 WCUnited States - 3 WC Netherlands - 0 ...2nd place: you were 2nd best, not good enough, 3rd place, you were 3rd best, not good enough |

...2nd place: you were 2nd best, not good enough, 3rd place, you were 3rd best, not good enough While obviously this strictly speaking is true you can't be seriously imply that for example (taking 2010 WC as base) Nigeria, with only 1 point and elimination in the first round, had the same result as the Dutch, who finished second. Of course there is a difference which should be acknowledged. the Dutch, considering the size of the country, have done very well with 3 2nd places in World Cup history.... Let's compare Portugal, which has appeared 6 times and finished third once. The Dutch appeared 9 times and finished 2nd thrice, which obviously is a better result. |

Wasn't good today, yet we won and qualified. Also, the penalty wasn't one in a million years, what an Algerian ref is doing at the highest stage is one of life's great mysteries..... Spain goes home, so next is Brasil, Mexico or Croatia.... |

Spain goes home, so next is Brasil, Mexico or Croatia.... The heat possibly is having an affect on European teams. Australia have been highly underrated, no manger could have prepared for there tactics. | | | Last edited: by ShinyDiscGuy |
