Hehe, I thought I'd find something new here, but I've got almost all of them already. Great movies.

Maybe a hint for A Dirty Carnival:
This isn't the usual korean jopok-drama so when I first watched it, I was very disappointed with this movie. It has more an Martin Scorcese feel to it, and it has a lot of the well known korean melodram in it
It's a great movie if you don't have the wrong expectations.

By the way, what was this reference in Dongmakgol about the girl with flowers in her hair? Why would she be crazy just because of the flowers?

In Korea, flowers in the hair is a symbol for mentally being deranged. So don't ever put flowers in your hair when you are in Korea.

Just watched that earlier this week, awesome movie. By the way, you dont happen to know the old (and wierd) Korean song in the beginning? Ive heard it before too (Probably was in Jopok Manura 2?). Finding any info on Korean music is very hard. I've only seen a handful of OST's being sold, and never the ones i'm searching

Are you talking about the old song that plays in the beginning of the movie where Jang, Dong-geon is walking by the streetcar (~07:00 mark), nasally song sung by a female? If that's it, then that song is called "Oppa-neun pung-gakjaeng-ih", a 1938 song sung by Park, Hyang-rim.

I generally buy my Korean DVDs from DVDfromKorea. They are usually the cheapest if you are careful with shipping.

They are already on my whitelist, but shipping costs are quite high. I found most of the movies I'm missing on HKFlix. But I'll probably first "rent" them before I decide to buy them.

Can I recommend "Crying Fist" be added to the list? Haven't seen it mentioned yet, great film.

Nice list by the way, has certainly given me some ideas. I tend to favour Japanese cinema, but I do branch out into Korean once in a while

I'd like to see 'Some' added. It's a great film that doesn't seem to get much notice. Next, does anyone know much about 'Traces of Love' and 'Death Note'? I saw them on Yesasia and they intrigue me. It would be nice to hear opinions before I blind buy.

Btw, Xradman, you and Kovacs should be congratulated for these threads. They must take a lot of time, but they are going to be really useful. And expensive.

Now I did know that time!  I forgot to distinguish, but I thought I may as well as for both in one place. Anyway, I believe the one I'm after is based on, or is also, a Manga (Japanese Manga, rather than Korean...  )

There is Death Note and Death Note: Last Name.  More or less part one and two.  You are correct, it is also a manga and anime.  Both can be ordered from www.dvdasian.com

As for Korean, I still love Save the Green Planet and can't wait to see Host.

I love Crying Fist. But I'm trying to keep this list somewhat manageable by limiting the total number to 30. If I add Crying Fist, what should I remove???Hmmm...

Any movie that stars Baek, Yun-sik and Shin, Ha-gyun are going to be good. Again, I considered adding it to the list, but then what do I take out? I haven't seen A Dirty Carnival, so perhaps that...

Maybe you shouldn't put films in a list of essential korean cinema if you haven't seen them yet
BTW how old are you?
