this is the technical support not the feature request forum - so strictly this isn't a feature request. If you wish to make one then I suggest you go to the feature request forum and have a look there since this may have already been requested.

However since this location is 'as specified' by Microsoft I doubt that Ken will change it.

In the meantime have a look at this thread since it seems there is a workaround where you can have the database / program running from a USB stick.

Just to add my 2-cents worth.  I have my DVDProfiler on an external drive which I hook up to my WORK laptop.  I am not SUPPOSED to have anything outside of the scope of work on the laptop.  Before, this was not a problem, since everything loaded on the external drive.  Now I get all this stuff in My Documents on the laptop.  I could actually get fired for this!  I sure wish there was an option allowing control of where the files are loaded.

Thanks to everyone for the explanations... I'm still coming to grips with the implications of what Vista would do if we installed it at work ... and it's not pretty.

I think that it's clear that the argument can be made that putting the "DVD Profiler" templates et. al. data in My Documents is wrong ... it should actually be in the users Application Data folder.  Hopefully this will be fixed in a future release.

For those of you who would like to move all of the data back to the old location, all you need to do is copy it back and then replace the "DVD Profiler" directory with a hard link to the new location ... in my case this is C:\Program Files\DVD Profiler - note that you must be running an NTFS based file system for this to work.

You can create hard links via the command line or use a program like Junction Link Magic which will stop you making a complete mess of the file system (in most cases)...

The command line program is fsutil and, as usual - RTFM before you use it.

And finally - please make a backup of both directory trees before you try this.

Select File -> Open Database

Create a new, empty database in any folder of your choosing.

Open that database.

Restore backup.
