A lot of Kim Ki-Duk's movies look very pretty, for instance "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring" and "The Bow"
And I was really impressed with American Gangster. Not only the visuals, but the entire movie. "American Gangster".. Did you watch it on HD-DVD or on DVD? | | | Check out my Youtube channel under https://www.youtube.com/user/alittleolder |

| Posted: | | | | I now have one that's the exact opposite of a visual feast. "Hostel 2". The quality of the transfer to Blu Ray is so bad. I am sure that the upscaled DVD would look just as good.
This is the first blu ray where I would say it's not even worth the extra $5 or so you have to pay for the Blu Ray | | | Check out my Youtube channel under https://www.youtube.com/user/alittleolder |

This is the first blu ray where I would say it's not even worth the extra $5 or so you have to pay for the Blu Ray Although close, I think you have slightly misunderstood the topic. The topic isn't actually for good transfers, but movies where the visual element is essential, or even the defining element in a movie. Movies where the images presented on the screen are stunning, regardless of which format they are presented via. I hope this clarifies things... and yes, some of what you have posted already have stunning on-screen visuals. | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) |

I hope this clarifies things... and yes, some of what you have posted already have stunning on-screen visuals. I didn't really misunderstand the topic. Actually I was always talking about really impressive movies. Only I restricted them to good transfers. In that manner I wanted to present a negative. "Hostel 2" has crappy visuals and the transfer is awful. Today I received "Chronicles of Narnia" that one is supposed to be a "Visual Feast". It's movies like that you'd like to see in that list right? | | | Check out my Youtube channel under https://www.youtube.com/user/alittleolder |

| Posted: | | | | For me, Narnia is definitely a visual feast (and a welcome change from the panning-shot battle to something more in-your-face and personal). I've not watched my DVD of it yet (having seen it twice in cinemas), but I'm sure it'll look amazing, even simply up-scaled. I hope you enjoy your (presumably Blu) copy.
My bad for reading your posts as being just about the transfer. We're really quite lucky to be able to see some of these feasts in HD, which in some cases probably means we're seeing them better than the director intended!
Looking on (the soon to close) XploitedCinema website, I saw that The Neverending Story is out on Blu-Ray (in Europe). Some great visuals in that. I've not investigated any reviews on it (haven't gone Blu yet), but I'm sure it'd come up stunningly. | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) |

The neverending story was great when I was a child. I am not sure if I'd still enjoy it. Haven't even seen parts 2 & 3. If you enjoy great visuals you should definitely get a Blu Ray Player. The, very cool, Samsung BD-P 1400 is down to $250 now. That's not that much. Considering the first DVD Player I bought was about $1300. I just check amazon.de and amazon.co.uk, there is no mention of a blu ray of the neverending story | | | Check out my Youtube channel under https://www.youtube.com/user/alittleolder |

If I were to go Blu, it would do untold harm to that goal. I do however have access to an upscaling DVD player, and a plasma (albeit 720p) TV (and my 22" LCD monitor) in the meantime. There are certainly the Blu discs out there to tempt me though. When The Dark Crystal is announced, I'll probably cave. As for Neverending Story, part two was pretty good, and gets an undeservedly bad rap. It's not as good as the original, but still enjoyable. I think most people get hung up on Bastian being played by a different actor, but the two movies were released six years apart, and set close together. Avoid part 3 unless you're a masochist. The Blu-ray of part 1 is out in The Netherlands. If you want to get it from Xploited, click here (they have quite a number of other import titles to boot). The guys at Blender are about to release Big Buck Bunny (10min) (an open source movie) onto Blu-Ray. It's available for free download, and doesn't look too shabby. What's got me interested in the Blu of this, is that it includes Blender's previous release, Elephants Dream (11min). Both are visual feasts, though I prefer Elephants Dream. | Posted: | | | | I just saw a movie that blew my mind. visual wise. While not having the best story "Dragon Wars" featured visuals that were actually among the best I've ever seen. I was really impressed. If not for the movie itself you should get that movie just for the visuals. (The Blu Transfer could be better, but I was told not to mention stuff like that here! | | | Check out my Youtube channel under https://www.youtube.com/user/alittleolder |

You see the same scene about 10 times always from different standpoints looks great.

Just finished "Poseidon"..
That is a real feast of great visuals. Just the establishing shot alone. With the 360 of the boat with Dylan running on it. Also when it sinks. That just looks awesome.. | | | Check out my Youtube channel under https://www.youtube.com/user/alittleolder |

They fly around, then the camera does a 360 turn around them while they fly. I know it's a rip off of asian movies but still. Could you elaborate why you disagree? | | | Check out my Youtube channel under https://www.youtube.com/user/alittleolder |

| Posted: | | | | I'm not saying that the films aren't visual feasts... clearly they are. Bullet-time was the in-thing for a while too. I just don't agree that they contain the most stunning visuals ever filmed. I don't know for sure, but I'd say Pan's Labyrinth would certainly be a contender. The Dark Crystal had some amazing stuff... matte paintings that were superb, and barely discernible from the set. Add into that some amazingly detailed puppets (including in the mid/background) and you've got stunning visuals. For me organic visuals are more stunning. The Matrix (trilogy) is so urban that I don't appreciate it in quite the same way.
I will agree that it is visually stunning.
Writing this, I remembered a scene from Time and Tide... I can't remember why, but the camera drops over the top of a building (I think in Kowloon) and it is like you're falling. Amazing even on DVD (the first time I saw it was in a cinema, and I didn't think it would have retained its impact). | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) |

I just watched "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas". I though, that it really was a visual tour de force. Such strange images appear on the screen when they are "high". It's really hard to describe but there are not many other films (I can't think of any right know), that have visuals in that style.
This movie is also generally very interesting. A typical "Terry Gilliam" flick. Definitely worth check out | | | Check out my Youtube channel under https://www.youtube.com/user/alittleolder |
