| Posted: | | | | Quoting Floorwalker: Quote: I've read the post Taro was talking about: Romanization of... Dr. Pavlov/Skip...whatever he calls himself...that reply was totally uncalled for. It was wrong. It should not have been allowed. It deserved to moderated, deleted...something should have been done.
I didn't see anything inflammatory in Taro's initial post. Maybe Dr. Pavlov/Skip should have PM'd Taro.
When posts such as Skips are allowed, it makes me think the moderators aren't moderating! I have to be fair and I don't want to paint a black-white picture here. After the mess that was my first thread here, Skip did PM me in the end to apologize ... sort of. I don't have the PM anymore but the general gist of it was in the lines of this: "Sorry I came down hard on you. I hope we can leave this behind us and work together in the future. I still stand with what I've said though, namely that your initial post was offensive and insulting." I accepted his apology at the time, thinking I just caught him at a bad time but that last part of his PM always left an after taste of him not wanting to fully admit he was wrong ... I guess. | | | Blu-ray collection DVD collection My Games My Trophies |

| Posted: | | | | To state the obvious:
People are leaving. Certainly more than the ones that actually announce the fact. Some people are not contributing, either profiles, to the forums, or both. Post rating doesn't work, and has no effect. Moderation is patchy as best, and inconsistent. There are "preferred" user(s) who are allowed to be as rude as they like, knowing there are no repercussions. Profile updates are sometimes voted on by people who obviously don't have the disc, but feel compelled to "pull you into line".
All of the above devalue DVDProfiler. From my own perspective (Australia) I have noticed a considerabel delay in regional contributions, virtually no contirbutions for older DVDs that don't have an exisiting profile, and few updates to existing profiles. This is compared to profile entry a few years ago.
A long time ago (so it seems) I contributed profiles and updates for my region on a regular basis. I stopped a while ago because, instead of simply voting to accept or reject a profile update, some people felt compelled to include personal insults in the voting notes, and to drag the voting process into the forums. This is what triggered a lot of new votes from people who had suddenly "acquired" the disc, and who didn't live in the region the disc was released in. Skip is a good example of someone who abuses the voting process in this way, though for the life of me I can't see why he bothers.
Finally, this forum is viewed as a joke by many people outside the DVDProfiler user base (and probably by a reasonable number in it). Why? Because, instead of forcussing on the films, or how DVDProfiler can be improved, this forum continually debates such things as the relative merits of dividing a title using a colon instead of a space. And not once, but continuously, over and over again.
Certainly Taro's comment on there being first and second class users is absolutely correct. I have been a user of DVDProfiler and these forums for a lot longer that Skip (despite what he might say) and can remember a time when these forums were a pleasant place to come to. That is certainly not the case now, and there is no prospect of that changing without serious Invelos involvement.
I'll ask the question again:
Ken, how many lost users will it take for you to do something about this?
Sorry about the length of this. |

| Posted: | | | | Really sorry to see you leave, Taro. As far as I'm concerned, you have been one of the most constructive users here, always trying to come up with ideas for solutions for the problems that exist in the DVDP contribution system. And your invaluable expertise on Japanese names will be very hard to replace.
I can only hope that your leaving will not be in vain and that FINALLY some long-overdue changes will be made to these forums.
Take care, my friend! |

Sorry about the length of this. One of the best posts here for a while. I agree on most of the points. Only thing that I can not see is the lacking of contributions, I feel there are even more than usual, also you have to keep in mind, that some regular contributors (like myself) are using the BETA and cannot contribute right now. And I guess that is why Ken (Invelos) does not care, the program is running strong, its only the forums that are becoming a mess, and we are maybe 1 % of the people using that program. I really wish Ken would care more about the forums here. But all this will not stop me from enjoying the program and contributing, I am just not posting in the topics that turn into flame wars. cheers Donnie | | | www.tvmaze.com |

| Posted: | | | | Taro,
Sad to see you go from the forum, but it's good to know that you will still contribute to the database. In the end, that's the most important thing for the program. I'd rather make contributions that might improve the database and the data in other people's collections, than moan and groan about the same topic over and over and over.
I wish many green arrows to the posters in this thread. Good to read some sensible posts once in while. |

Only thing that I can not see is the lacking of contributions, I was talking about the Australian region specifically, not as a whole, as I wouldn't know about other regions. I know there are a number of former high-volume Australian contributors who no longer contribute because of the abuse they have suffered. A great loss. |

| Posted: | | | | So... this? Totally blows.
I never spoke much with Taro as we generally had very different collections that had very little overlap and a lot of the stuff we each posted didn't really apply to the other one, but I always read pretty much everything he ever wrote on this forum, and I can genuinely say, he was absolutely and without a doubt one of the good ones around here (there are many, their voices just aren't nearly as loud as the others'). The fact that he was temporarily banned absolutely BOGGLES the friggin' mind. Whatever he's said (when he's responded in anger to being treated like garbage I might add) that could be considered moderatable (word?) content, is ZERO compared to some of the other garbage that flies on this forum.
Second and first class posters is absolutely right. It's utterly ridiculous that THIS is the moderation in action that we all wanted. Moderation isn't about playing favorites, it's about being unbiased and fair... This? Unbiased and fair are two of the words that come to mind LAST in this case. Garbage. I absolutely do not blame him for leaving, and wish him well. He'll probably do a lot better with his collection and hobby due to avoidance of these forums. Maybe we should all take a cue. Maybe the friggin' point would finally be driven across that SOMETHING needs to change. It's such a shame that those who want positive change are constantly ignored and treated like s**t, but those that do the treating like s**t are allowed free reign.
