Make sure that both your player and your screen support PAL before starting to order from Europe. Unless your player has a facility like my Oppo BDP-83, which can convert PAL to NTSC for screens unable to display PAL.

I will have to check my books... my TV is the standard 4:3 style.... I haven't gone to the widescreen sets yet.

Your screen won't matter. As long as you have a DVD player (like the Oppo) that can convert a PAL signal to an NTSC signal, that's all you really need in order to watch it on a standard NTSC set.
