For you it was about playing with your friends. For me it is about specific games. For my son, and the 99 other people that waited in line all night, it was about Zelda. There is no logic, no rhyme or reason behind personal wants and needs. It doesn't matter it it can play Blu-ray discs or if it has the best rated games or any other objective thing you can think of...if it doesn't fill your personal needs, what good is it? | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Getting back to the topic, I just bought a 50" plasma and now I'm ready to buy my gaming system. In the past, I've owned a PS and PS2 and every Nintendo system made. I've never owned an Xbox. I really wanted to get an Xbox 360, but didn't want to until I got the HDTV. Now that I have one, my choice was either the PS3 or the 360.
My big problem is committing to either HD or Blue Ray. My parents bought a Beta max in the 80's and that taught me a lesson. Before I begin to replace my DVD collection, I'm making sure that the format is going to be around for a long time.
That being said, the choice came down to game selection (since this is supposed to be about playing games) and the 360 right now has the better games. The PS3 is a little more then I wanted to spend and I'd rather wait until they get whatever bugs worked out and the game selection is larger.
I decided on the 360. The day I decided to get it, the announcement came out about the 360 Elite with the HDMI cable...SOLD! Yes, I have to impatiently wait another 20 days, but I think the HDMI and the 120GB hard drive is going to be worth the wait.
Being the zombie fan that I am, 20 more days until Dead Rising!!
I'm not ruling out getting a PS3, but it probably won't be for another couple of years. Until then, I will truly enjoy getting off of the PC and enjoying my new Xbox 360 Elite. |

You might want to wait a little longer... My son tells me that they are coming out with another model by Christmas that is supposed to have a smaller power supply and run cooler, requiring a smaller fan which means less noise. I haven't confirmed this myself, but he usually knows more about these things than I do. If those 2 things don't bother you, then yea, the Elite looks good. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. I was big into playing PC games, but man it is out of control trying to keep up with the latest and greatest video cards. There is not end to the gaming cards. If you are running a Windows PC you can use your 360 with your pc. Photo and music sharing and you have a media center then you can extend your media center to your 360. Works great!! Maybe if the HD format war will end soon and have a winner maybe MS will release an Xbox 360 elitest and include an internal driver of the HD format winner. Dead Rising is a fun game. What i find really cool is that almost every game is kind of like a 2 for 1. You get the single player mission, campaign version and then the multiplayer version with all the online playing aspects. FYI my edits on all my posts are for spelling, missing words etc. | | | Last edited: by graymadder |

If the Xbox 360 has the games you want to play, go for it, but yes I would wait for the elite to come out. I own a 360. My brother who lives with me has every system there is (BTW he plays his PS1 games the most and doesn't even own a PS3 game for his PS3). I will eventually own both after the price of the PS3 goes down a little and they have more games I am interested in playing. Bottom line, it isn't the graphics or number of games, it is the game you want to play. Personally, I prefer old school Pirates Gold and Zak McCrankin (spelling?) on Commadore 64. | | | Schultzy - http://www.michaelschultz.net grenactics - The art of skillfully fraggin one’s opponent with the use of grenades or other compact explosive devices that are thrown by hand or projected. |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting graymadder: Quote: The funny thing is how off topic this thread has become. The thread should be called PS3 vs Xbox 360. I actually enjoy reading this topic. It's amusing because you cannot say or prove that one is better than the other because they are different on many levels. At best you can compare/contrast their weaknesses. It’s like comparing Mac to the PC. They are so different that why bother. To even confuse this even more compare Linux/Unix , Mac, and the PC. The only definitive answer will be is that everyone has “their” reasons why one is better.
So to be more on topic do people agree with the re- release of the 360 to include an HDMI option? My answer to this is yes I think it is good that they now offer it this way. Am I pissed that they didn’t offer it when I bought mine? Yes, but that is life. The same goes for double dip in any products i.e. DVDs. But should they not re-release it because people may get mad? No. That would be stupid and ignorant. Catch 22. Damned if they do and damned if they don’t.
Everyone (well not everyone, but you get my point) likes to rip on Microsoft, but is it fair this time(release of the Xbox & 360)? I think Sony has filled the role of the evil giant in this scenario. Before the release of the Xbox, Sony had no real competition. Sony opted to go 32 bit with the PS and not 64 bit like the N64. They did; however, used cdrom instead of the cartridge like N64. N64 was a better system because of the 64 bit graphics, but limited on the amount of space the cartridge could hold. But I had both. Look at how much better of a console the Xbox was over the ps2. The inclusion of a HDD and a NIC to name a few. Sony tried to release a HDD and a NIC, but not too many bought them. To be fair, the Xbox wasn’t perfect. Sony ruled the gaming market before the Xbox. Now look at it. The 360 is far from a perfect system, but it is quite nice. So is the PS3, as we’ve all had the liberty to read. I was going to buy a PS3 originally, but with all the push backs I was tired of waiting. After the release of the PS2, I decided not to buy a console until after it has been out for one year. Mostly because of the lack of games. So the 360 beat the PS3 to the 1 yr mark. The other reasons is that all my friends have a 360 and being able to play online with them will beat out a PS3 any day. Even if it has a 37 core processor and 50gb games, if none of my friends have a PS3 than there isn’t much of need for me to get one either. The 360 is here to stay, but is the PS3? I am sure it will be. I agree with most of what you have said. When you said, "Everyone (well not everyone, but you get my point) likes to rip on Microsoft, but is it fair this time(release of the Xbox & 360)? I think Sony has filled the role of the evil giant in this scenario." Did you mean that Sony has been doing evil things or that they have been villianized (placed in those shoes) by the public? I wasn't aware there were a lot of people ripping on Microsoft. I know companies and the government(s) have had them in court for several things, but I have not heard about the public really ripping on MS. Could you point me in the right direction of this information? I remember when MS was in court for breaking anti-trust laws. Bill Gates got on the stand and basically said if you break this company apart I will shutdown MS and wait 12 years then see what's happening at that point. People were so amazed that MS made the government back off and left with only a slap on the wrist. People liked that mob-like/thuggish appearance of that tactic like they like mob movies. Getting back to the new Xbox Elite. Should a console company release 2 and 3 consoles in the first 2 years of the formats life span? Personally, I think a company should at least have the foresight to cover technologies in the near future so they don't have to put consumers through the rebuying process so soon. To me that is not really a "next-gen" console...that is a "right now" console. But like I said before, I do not regret my 360 purchase. I have had over a year now with it, but going forward multi-platform game purchases will not be for my 360. | | | To err is human... ----------- 473 Blu-ray Titles |

| Posted: | | | | The spring updates to the dashboard on the 360 look to be very nice this time around and i'm sure that a lot of people are really going to like them. I'm not sure how significant they will be to myself or the posters here but they will be very cool nontheless. Xbox 360 Spring Dashboard Update Features Leaked By: César A. Berardini - "Cesar" Apr. 7th, 2007 1:24 pm Beginning the morning of Monday, May 7, you'll be able to download the 2007 spring system update for the Xbox 360, which provides new features and enhancements for the dashboard, including a dedicated Xbox Live Marketplace blade, Windows Live Messenger interoperability, improved functionality for Achievements, downloads and movies. Unfortunately, there won't be Clan Support in this update so we'll have to wait for the Fall system update. For those who don't want to waste their time watching the video, here's the lowdown: Windows Live Messenger interoperability: Add up to 600 Windows Live Messenger contacts to your Xbox Live's Friends List. Basic text chat functionality with Windows Live Messenger users. Audio and video might be in the works. You'll be able to chat with up to 6 friends online while playing games or watching movies. Your Windows Live Messenger contacts will know which games you are playing, as well as your gamertag. You'll see your Friends status, whether they are playing a game on Online on Windows Live Messenger. Xbox Live Marketplace: Xbox Live Marketplace will now have its own blade. The XBL Marketplace blade can have its own skin, independent of the dashboard's theme. The XBL Marketplace blade will change looks depending on such events such a season, a holiday, etc. Achievements: When you unlock a new achievement, the pop up will show which Achievement you got and how many points you earned. Downloads: Auto-shutdown: When enabled, it turns off your console after 6 hours on inactivity or after all the items in the queue were downloaded. Low-power downloading mode: it turns off all your fans when you leave the console downloading content. View partially downloaded movies: self explanatory; you can view parts of a movie that have been downloaded. Here are some pics of the keyboard add-on for messanging. For anyone who would like to send me a FR, My gamertag is x MattyJames xI enjoy playing pretty much everything but I'm not very good at anything. | | | Last edited: by MattyJames |

If those 2 things don't bother you, then yea, the Elite looks good. Waiting for the 65nm version of the Xbox is like waiting for the next generation of CPUs... There will always be a better one. The fans aren't really the problem of the Xbox 360, it's the DVD drive and as long as the drive is still spinning at full speed ALL the time when playing a disc-based game, a newer processor and less fan noise won't do any good. | | | Samsung UE55C6200, Yamaha RX-V2067, Xbox 360, PS3. |
