| Posted: | | | | See guys, this is altruistic friendship! I hope you all learned something today. | | | With every passing hour our solar system comes forty-three thousand miles closer to globular cluster M13 in the constellation Hercules, and still there are some misfits who continue to insist that there is no such thing as progress. | | | Last edited: by Skywatcher |

| Posted: | | | | I guess I see what me problem was... I was looking at the voting system and comparing it to what's seen on Youtube, Digg, YTMND, etc.... as basically a very minor thing. On those sites, a post simply shows how many people voted it positive or negative, and users have a control panel that can specify how many negative posts before the comment is hidden (the user can simply click a button to show the comment). Here, a "negative" vote works more like a "report this post to an administrator or moderator for abuse" type link or button. So I guess it should only really be used in an extreme circumstance. Still, in my own humble and personal opinion, I would rather see a post voting system like the youtube - digg style. However, I have to say, the system does seem to be having an effect so far. I've yet to see one of the bickering + insulting threads break out in the contributions forum, which have become all too common lately. "You know who" seems to be on his best behavior now, and that's a major plus. | | | 99.9% of all cat plans consist only of "Step 1." |

its not just report this post - it can (if they get enough negative votes) stop the person being able to post for a day. So its trying to automate some of the action that on other sites is done by moderators. See full thread here | | | Paul |
