What's unusual is that processing for completely new profiles (which of course nobody can vote on) has also stalled. Those were usually approved within 24 hours in the past.

I have noticed that, too. For decades, new contributions rarely took more than 24 hours to be approved, but lately that can take a lot longer, up to a full week - even longer than "regular" contributions that can be voted on.

"Second Level Reviewing" (= contributions that either draw "no"-votes or includes a new birth year or the addition of uncredited cast get closer scrutiny, by an actual human) occasionally seems to be suspended for quite a while, too, but that isn't new, that part of the process has had such occasional pauses for years. But *new* contributions never took this long to get processed.

Indeed, also noticed that.
In fact, at this moment it has been almost 3 days since I have submitted a new profile, but still no processing whatsoever.
And the other one (still no votes) from May 8 still needs to be processed.

N.B. I was under the assumption that (voluntary) people from the separate localities do these checkups and processing jobs for their own locality as well.

This makes me reluctant to add any new posts. I have several Shudder releases that do not have images or information that need updates. Now I feel that the work I will have to put in for that will just get wasted on only my personal profile. I am sure the people at invelos software were trying, but I am sad that this program got sold to an outside company. Have a feeling that if i was a new customer that buying the key would be a waste on a program that feels like it is being updated by the consumer rather than by the company that owns it.

Sorry, have a tendency to ramble. I know Invelos was not the original creator of this software. My family got the key before they acquired it. That was beside the point that several new movies from Shudder DVD have no information what so ever on this database. Several movies bought from Walmart do not come in well also. This forum made me realize that any data updating I do on these disks maybe only for my families benefit it it takes that long for contributions to go through.

Side question:
I may have it missed it but is there any way to add additional online dvd databases to the profiler? IMDB and a few others are there but i noticed that newer databases are not on the profiler.

Last month I've had multiple new profiles approved the same day they were contributed.

Changes to profiles have taken anywhere from 3-5 days.

It's been the same programmer since the first version. Ken Cole broke from the original "company" (more of an umbrella for multiple programmers to sell their apps). The original agreement, if I recall, was to split the profits of their efforts but it boiled down to Ken feeding everybody. Ken managed to break away after the others sued and formed Invelos to continue.

It's always been the users building the database.  While Ken has done the programming work, we have always been the ones who add all the movie releases and everything that goes with that.

I'm not sure what you mean here.  Do you mean to add data from other databases to the profiles?  The only source should be the disc, not IMDB or other online databases.  Do you mean as a source for info such as birthyears or such?  That's always been acceptable to cite as one of the sources for that kind of info.  Or do you mean to add to the link pages?  Anything can be added there.

Wow sorry. Is there a way to pull the dvd info in using established databases like IMDB or the production companies info pages. I have recently aquired multiple shudder channel movies. Many of these movies (DVDs not Blu rays) are not recognized at all. Shudder does have a page with all of the disk info. I can find a few with the Blu rays which I have yet to find in the local market so it would be nice to have the dvd info available.

gain sorry for the confusion. I guess I was wondering why the data can't be pulled from the available online databases?

Introduction after 5216 days with INVELOS

Thank you for your interest in contributing to the DVD Profiler main database!

As part of our ongoing quest to maintain, improve and refine our DVD database, we have created these rules. These rules apply to online contributions. You can use DVD Profiler locally, or you can contribute to the main online database, or you can do both. If you want to contribute to the online database, the rules tell you how to complete each DVD Profiler field.

If you wish to save different information in your local profiles, you are free to do so in your local database, but do not contribute your information. The main database is standardized so that all profiles follow these rules. DVD Profiler allows you to lock your data so that it is not overwritten by updates from the main database.

The authoritative source for information submitted should be the DVD itself.  Please don't submit content from a third party database, and always verify the specifications printed on the cover.  In both cases, errors abound, so always verify the information directly from the DVD whenever possible.

These rules apply to all kinds of profiles, but there are two special cases where the rules need clarifications. Where you see the icons shown below, refer to the special instructions at the end of this document. These are titled Movie Box sets and TV Series on DVD.

I think you are missing something here...

The abridged version goes something like this (free from memory):
Once upon a time, many moons ago, three people decided to found a company called Intervocative, The purpose of the company was to market the software that the three people wrote.

Years later, it turned out that only one of the three people, Kenneth Cole (aka. Ken), had made a program and released it through Intervocative - that program was DVD Profiler. For reasons that have never been fully disclosed, Ken had an argument with the other two owners, resulting in Ken taking DVD Profiler and leaving Intervocative, starting his own company Invelos and running DVD Profiler from there.

Yes, the company changed, but the developer remained the same. He even converted old keys bought through Intervocative to new Invelos-keys free of charge...
The future is here. It's just not widely distributed yet. (William Gibson)

Okay wasn't totally sure about that. I remember a time when making mobile accessable for Android was considered a fad.

Things like release dates, especially the December limited-release and everywhere-else-the-following-year films can use available online databases. You just can't use IMDB, etc. for wholesale cast/crew importation, because that violates IMDB's terms of service.
My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT.
FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that.
Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it!

IMDB is also known for embedding subtle errors in their cast & crew listings to catch such data mining.

I wonder how / where they get THEIR data?

Can you legally enforce rights management when you give away your data on a public facing web page?
