The other day I blind-bought Bunraku, and watched it that same night. A unique visual experience, with dance-like fights and art nouveau-inspired backgrounds.

I thought Tarsem's Immortals was a real visual feast, like his previous films... even if the screenplay was lacking.

It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

"So what movies have stunning visuals? It could be something that on release was jaw-droppingly spectacular, or something that uses a wide palette of colours (or conversely a very subdued one), or even something that simply has a highly unique aesthetic".

Tarkovsky's Mirror (1975)
Marketa Lazarová (1967)
The Color of Pomegranates (1968)
Nostalgia for Countryside (1996)
Woman in the Dunes (1964)

House of Sand (2005)

While browsing this thread, I didn't notice a couple of my favorites in this category:

- Vertical Ray of the Sun
- Coming To America (I first saw it on HD DVD and was stunned by the opening scenes)
- Sherlock British TV Series, Season 1, especially Hound of The Baskervilles views of the English countryside
