| Posted: | | | | Simon, the main reason to provide a timestamp and/or additional information for the appearance of an uncredited actor is to allow voters to check the scene also. Having verifiable information that can be independently checked by other people will increase the likelihood of getting yes votes. As others have pointed out, the contribution notes provide a history of the contributions for all areas of the profile. This history can be useful when auditing a profile if the notes fully explain what has been changed and why. To me this is even more important in regards to the uncredited cast because there is no other place than the contribution notes to determine how those names got there in the first place. The unfortunate thing is the current history only goes back to the beginning of the new db (March 07), so the only way to track back further is to use the old version of the program to access the notes from the old db. Most of the older profiles do not have verified uncredited cast, they were mostly added "in the old days" before rules and when scraped data from "other" databases was used. Those entries have been grandfathered as verified. But that was then and this is now, and the rules require naming the source for submitted information. Ken has posted specifically on this. Since uncredited cast is by definition not listed in the film credits (the only acceptable source for cast and crew information) we all have to do a little extra work when adding them. As far as an uncredited voice, I would like to see something more substantive than a timestamp since many people can sound the same and some impersonators do other's voices quite well. If some form of verifiable reference can not be found, it is probably best not to contribute them. | | | Kevin |

Skip I do not know why my name is brought into this no IMDb situation, but I am not against using the IMDb. Just do not use it as your main source, but use it as a guide to find correct uncredited cast and indicate where they are in the movie in your notes. If you add the exact time in the movie of an uncredited appearance so voters could easily check it out themselves, like Kevin says, it should be no problem at all. | | | Martin Zuidervliet

Is it not a problem now that many will use IM.. and not say so, and with respect to the credits, just say it all is contributed as in the end credits. Mind you, I don't advocate this! But it might be a problem. I'd really like to know who that was and suggest an immediate contribution ban for this user. | | | Michael |

There is no way that user is advocating using IMDB data, so don't worry about him. | | | John

There is no requirement for you to Contribute to the database, you can choose to do your own thing and no one will care.
Skip I hope this does not mean what I read in it. Does not give me a real feeling of 'join the club'. Glad I know some people who really appreciate the many hours I spend on making contributions. And believe me it is not for my own 'glory', but the idea that my work is of good use to other users. Is not that the basic idea of Profiler. I don't want to score with an incomplete profile just to get my name in the database. So I really care for the contributions of others and can be very satisfied when I find a nice profile for the film I just bought. That is what Profiler is all about. Might it not also be that 'we Dutch' always have some -SLIGHT- problems with FOLLOWING THE RULES. To me it sometimes looks like a straightjacket, follow the rules or you are OUT, it reminds me of bad things. But I must add, I am a very law-abiding man, no criminal record and so. And seem to understand more than is thought of me. SimonD |

It means exactly what it says, you can do WHATEVER you want to locally, if you do not want to follow the Rules then don't Contribute, it's a strictly personal decision and no one here is going to tell you what to do or decide. If the Dutch have a problem following Rules, then that is a DUTCH problem but that doesn't mean that they are exempt fom the Rules.

| Posted: | | | | Today, I opened the database page to look at new recontributions. There was none. That is the first time for four years (including IVS years) that it happens concerning the DVDs I have in my collection. Even if here most of people disagree with what I wrote before, I'm sure it's the beginning of what I fear : no more contributions, then no more interest for newbies to choose DVDprofiler if the database is empty... I'm not sure that is exactly what Ken wants . | | | Images from movies |

I'm not sure that is exactly what Ken wants . What is it that you don't get about not being able to use IMDB? Are you simple? | | | Guns don't kill people. Hammers do. |

I just said, and now SEE that the rules make people to stop any contributions (not only me, since I quite never recontribute, nearly all my 400 contributions were new profiles). | | | Images from movies |

I'm not sure that is exactly what Ken wants . I find that very hard to believe. I know I have seen many days/weeks where I didn't have a single profile to vote on. You seem to be exaggerating to try and bolster your point, but it doesn't ring true. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
