| Posted: | | | | Still it only means completely or absolutely? And also in the word `utter` I don't see any way this could be offensive? Going as far to the `Young Ones`... a bit fat fetched, but still could be...
But I stand by what I wrote because to me it seemed that someone wanted to 'pick a fight'. | | | Jean-Paul |

See who made the utterly useless post and that is likely your negative giver. I have received all of my negatives this way. |

Great Moments in Public Education A fourth-grade teacher at Mary C. Williams Elementary School in Wilmington, N.C., "has received a formal reprimand for teaching her students the word 'niggardly,' " the Wilmington Star-News reports:
Last week, teacher Stephanie Bell said she used the word "niggardly," which means stingy or miserly, during a discussion about literary characters. But parent Akwana Walker, who is black, protested the use of the word, saying it offended her because it sounds similar to a racial slur.
The word niggardly is not even etymologically related to the word Attractive and Successful African American. You'd think the teachers union would be all over this, defending a member under attack from an ignorant parent. Nope. The union doesn't even want her to defend herself: "Ms. Bell said the N.C. Association of Educators has told her not to talk to anyone about the situation," the Star-News reports.

Perhaps many here will give you a negative vote and post against you, but I know I don't. If I'm disgusted enough by a post I find offensive (not for content, but for the negative way in which the comment is worded) to vote with a red arrow, I will not add a post objecting to the offensive statement. If I am bothered by the statement, I will post my feelings, and will not add a negative vote. I do one or the other, but not both. I doubt that I am the only one who acts like this. --- edited to add: actually, I did both once. And I'm still getting positive feedback (not green or red arrows anymore) for the post. --- People often believe they understand my motivations, but 'tain't neccessarily so... | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Skip I find it amazing how some school districts and/or teachers' organizations encourage stupidity. But it happens often enough... | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

People often believe they understand my motivations, but 'tain't neccessarily so... Vibro, The person making the post said the received the neg after they commented on the useless post. That is what I was commenting on, not the fact that everyone does that. I never said that. My comment was only related to the situation at hand. Sorry if I insinuated otherwise. | | | Last edited: by Lord Of The Sith |

| Posted: | | | | Okay. I understand.
But I know there are a few contributors here who seem to think that they know who gave them negative feedback (and have PMed me about "mine") just because of who might post objections. Sometimes negative feedback comes from lurkers and others who will not make a public comment about their opinion.
I just took your specific example to a more general circumstance... We're both good. | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

IMHO the most efficient way would be, to make a reason mandatory (optional anonymized) - equal to the contribution system. | | | Thorsten |

| Posted: | | | | I think the reason why an mandatory message wasn't included was because you can determine the identity of someone by their writing style. For example, it's common knowledge that if Skip gets upset, he makes more typos. So if you got a negative vote with a message containing typos, you would probably assume it came from Skip.
I agree with no message to the receiver of the negative vote. But if it was added, I believe that it should only be visible to Ken. |

I agree with no message to the receiver of the negative vote. But if it was added, I believe that it should only be visible to Ken. So how about a checkbox then with the possible legal options for a negative vote? This would clarify the reason and keep the sender perfectly hidden if wanted. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?
