Hi,
I am completely new to this forum as I have found this App only today,
but I have problems and need your help:

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note device (rooted) with Gingerbread and a PC with Windows7-32 bit.
I have downloaded the "Droid_DVDP.apk" and installed it on my device.
After the installation, I ran the App for a first time as recommended by Olivier, but in contradiction to his instructions, it did not tell me that my collection is empty, it only showed me a blank black screen, that was all.
I started the App a 2nd time but with the same result.
I even uninstalled it and installed it again, but no change, only a blank black screen.

Then I installed the Exporter PlugIn (setup b0.4.exe) and that worked okay, I can find and open the PlugIn in DVD-Profiler.
When I open the PlugIn, it seems to need to refresh the "Droid DVD root path", so I click on "Refresh" and it starts searching.

With USB-Debugging OFF it just says:
"Scanning to find android devices...
No Android device found.
Scanning done."

With USB-Debugging ON it is a bit better, but the result is the same.
I get:
"Scanning to find android devices...
Found: 304D19C34F209AAE
Searching device for Droid DVDP root directory...
file 'droid_dvdp_is_here' not found on device.
Run Droid DVDP on device first, and it will create it.
Search done.
Scanning done.

And this, even though my default directory structure I guess seems to be correct as follows:

/sdcard/droid_dvdp/
/sdcard/droid_dvdp/database
/sdcard/droid_dvdp/images
/sdcard/droid_dvdp/images/thumbnails
/sdcard/droid_dvdp/droid_dvdp_is_here
/sdcard/droid_dvdp/.nomedia

I don't know what the meaning of the last file ".nomedia" is, but the "droid_dvdp_is_here"-file is definitely there, I can see it, why can't the PlugIn find it?!?

However,
if I then click on "Export Collection", the PlugIn is doing something, but it ends with a zero-result anyway:

after I while, I get the following:
"Copy DB to device...
Removing device databases
Clearing ...scanning device...database/*:rm failed for ...scanning. No such file or directory
Copying database to device...
cmdush "W:\Users\Thomas\Documents\Droid_DVDP\droid_dvdp.db" "...scanning device.../database/droid_dvd.db"
result : failed to copy 'W:\Users\Thomas\Documents\Droid_DVDP\droid_dvdp.db' to...scanning device... /database/droid_dvdp.db': No such file or directory
result :
Export Done.

So, this is the "State of Play" on my device,
I have now worked 8 hours to possibly fix it, but I am at the end with my wisdom!
Pitty the App does not run on my device,
can anybody please help me to get it to work?

Many thanks in advance,
Tom

ok it sounds like everything is basically going the right way just some small issues.

I think what is happening is that your phone it auto mounting as mass storage, when you look in your My Computer see if you see the phone as removable storage.

If that is the case, then you just need to use the "Use Removable Disk" Option.

Post up what you find out.

Thanks for your answer,
glad to see I am not the only one awake at this time of the day!
I am afraid the Samsung Galaxy Note seems to be somewhat different to other Android devices!?
Basically there are 2 methods to connect my device to the PC:
1.) With "USB-Debugging" enabled:
in this case, when I connect the device to the PC, I can see it as 2 removeable disks (1 for the sd-card and 1 for the external sd-card), BUT I CANNOT ACCESS THEM.
2.) If I switch USB-Debugging OFF, I can connect the Android device to the PC as "Mass Storage" and I can see and access the 2 removeable disks on my PC.

As far as I can see, there is no option to connect my device as "Removeable Disk", I only have the option to connect as "USB Mass Storage".

Whereas I don't understand the difference between "Mass Storage" and "Removeable Disk"!?
Isn't that the same???

And as I write this, I just found something else called "USB-Tethering".
Is this what I need?
I don't know what it is, I just see that I cannot switch it on while USB Mass Storage is in use.

Curious, but thankful for your (everybody's) help!
Kind regards over the big pond,
Tom

Edit:
The "USB-Tethering" cannot be activated anyway, but as far as I can see, it's not what I need for the purpose.

Edit 2:
USB-Tethering can be activated, but only if USB-cable is not yet connected.
But from what I have seen now, this is by no means what I need!

Well, IF your mass storage has a drive letter that is all that matters.

My Evo 4G comes up as a removable mass storage, my Asus Transformer shows up as a media Device.

They have to be handled very differently in getting everything to work.

But if you get a drive letter, it should be fairy straight forward on getting things to work.

Take a screen grab of your "My Computer" and post it, and we can get an idea what we are working with it.

Thanks again for your answer,
didn't find the button to insert pictures until now
but here it is 6 a.m. and I am a bit tired already.
However:
here's the screen grab finally, the 2 drives marked (in the red rectangle) is my Android device, the bigger one is the external Micro-SDHC-card:

Ok you are golden then.

on your J drive you should have the /sdcard/droid_dvd/

if that is the case just use this set up.

then you should be ok.

If for some reason that doesnt work you can just manually copy file to the proper directories.

Hi Robert,
do you know that you not only made my day (and the night too on this end), but also made my whole weekend?!
Using your advice (and thanks to the screenshot) IT FINALLY WORKED!!!
Now I have my DVD-Profiler collection on my beloved Samsung Galaxy Note too, I AM ABSOLUTELY HAPPY!!!

And even though the database is now something around 105MB, that didn't impress my sd-card much!

Thank you very, very much for your help,
I owe you a beer (or two)!

All the best and kind regards,
Tom

No problem, I am finishing up watching Veronica Mars so no biggie.

With a collection of about 650 titles, unless you are exported full cast and crew 105mb sounds kinda huge, unless that is also including covers and thumbs.

My actual DB is about 5.8mb with images taking about 320mb

Glad you got it all sorted out, enjoy

Thanks again,
in fact I am sort of "I want it all"-type of guy, so I exported full cast and crew and all the pictures, everything I could get!
My Database on the PC is ~ 435MB, and not even that would have been a problem.

You can be glad that YOU sorted it out, I am just happy and be sure that I do enjoy this!
The open question is, why the people at Invelos did not get an App out for Android and why all the works is left to kind and helpful people like you and Olivier?
I mean we all have paid for DVD-Profiler, so maybe it would have been nice to listen to customers who demanded a Mobile-Android App since long!

And finally: WTF is Veronica Mars?

Thank you Robert for your precious and unvaluable help in this topic and on my site.

You now have the title of 'Chief Head Manager of Droid DVDP help team'

Because you and some others (that I also would like to thank) helped lost users, I got more time for the development.

I'm now working on a category filter, and trying indexes on the db to increase speed for the search and filters.

As I said previously, I have no tablet to check devlopments, and the for tablets that cannot use ADB and cannot connect as asb drive, I have no solution yet. Maybe you can save the DB in the idvdprofiler's images directory, so you can manually copy the db and the images directories in one step. I've seen there is a MTP and PTP protocol, but it's not so clear in my mind.

Thanx for reading.

(I know I say 'thank' too much, but I still think it's a magic word that needs to be said)

Olivier, no problem

I look forward to seeing the newer version.

As for a tablet, I now have a 10.1 screen ( Asus Transformer ) and I have access to a smaller screen tablet close to a kindle.

I would suggest making some of the image size options user selectable then you just have some pre sized templates and the user can pic what works for them.

I would also like to make text a tad bigger in the list as well as the profile view. Currently the size works well on a phone, but it a bit small for a larger format device.

Thanks again for a great product

-Robert

PS - you still need to get a Donate button going :D

Bonjour Olivier,
it is never to often to say "thank you", especially to people like you ( and Robert) who do work (without getting paid for it) which should have been done by others (Invelos in this case) in the first place.
But in doing so, you make communities like this one, the Internet and the whole world a better place to live in by making people like me happy!
And saying "thank you" is the least that people like me can do in this case.

This goes, by the way, also for the developers of "DVD Profiler Cast", a PC programme (I am sure you all know it) with which you can enter cast/crew-members from IMDB when they are missing in DVD-Profiler.

And by the way:
the Samsung Galaxy Note is not considered as a tablet, but it is also not considered as sheer smartphone.
Due to its form-factor (5.3" display) they have decided to call it a "Smartlet" since it has the best of both worlds.
And honestly: it is BY FAR the best, amazing smartphone I have ever seen (and I have seen some).
@ Robert:
as far as I know it is not available yet in the USA, but coming more or less soon (I think with a different name, who knows why).
Be sure to get one as soon as it will be available, I can only strongly recommend it!

Thank you very much again to both of you,
bon soir and goodbye from Vienna,
Tom

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2, it seems all the rescent Samasung Galaxy phone would work the same way and have to transfer the data to the phone via drive mappings. Another person on the Droid DVDP forums had the same issue with the Galaxy S. I think its to do with the way the phone (or the Note) have internal memory setup as the SDcard as well have having an SD card slot available.

I to would like to add my thanks to Oliver for his efforts.

@Oliver did you see the post I made here ?

Also, please don't use cracked version of Invelos' DVD Profiler. Buy it and register it. We all need Invelos to stay alive and running the database.

Olivier.

Bonjour again, Öivier,

I agree to what you say about cracked versions, but there is a "but":
I have purchased legally the full versions of both, DVD-Profiler and also DVD-Profiler Mobile.
I think it would have been up to Invelos to develop an App (Upgrade?) for Android "DVD-Profiler Mobile Droid", but they didn't.
And as far as I can see, Invelos did not work on DVD-Profiler any more since nearly 1 year now:
Version 3.7.2 , released February 4, 2011
And for all of those people (like me) who have switched from Windows Mobile to Android, the money we have paid for the Windows Mobile Version is now lost.

Not the best way to keep customers happy by not listening to their needs!
However, I still consider DVD-Profiler (one of) the best programmes to catalogue a DVD/BD-collection, so I stay loyal as long as Invelos keeps up DVD-Profiler, but I recommend to them to be more aware of their customers needs!

Salut,
Tom

P.S.: one more big "THANK YOU" for your great work!!!

Hi.

I know that there is one year without update.

I don't know how does Ken to continue his business with a lifetime buy license. Are enough new users every month to pay the servers disks for the growing DVD/bluray database, the upload and download of users' collection, and the forums traffic.

Maybe should he work on a new version 4.0 that we would buy again, of pay a small annual fee. It's not that I want to spend my money, but if the company is down (with the servers), I think I'll cry next time I'd like to add a new profile in my collection.
