Sony offers free PS3 firmware update
Users can play back media content stored on PCs and DVRs

MAY 25 | Sony Computer Entertainment of America has made a free firmware update available for the PlayStation 3, which will upgrade the video quality of standard-definition DVDs as well as PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games to 1080p resolution.
Also through the upgrade, PS3 can now play back media content stored on PCs and digital video recorders with Digital Living Network Alliance capabilities over a home network.
Plus, upon the next PlayStation Portable update, PSP owners will be able to access photos, videos and music off their PS3 drives via wi-fi connection.
“As adoption of HDTVs continues to surge, we know that consumers are hungry for content, and this latest firmware update leverages the PS3’s technology to deliver an HD-quality experience using the entertainment media already in your collection,” said Peter Dille, senior VP of marketing at SCEA.
The PS3 console has trailed behind rivals Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox 360 partly due to a lack of hit games. | | | | Signature banned: Reason out of date... |

| | Posted: | | | | Another very important feature is 1080p 24fps, which truly makes Blurays outstanding. As to HDMI being required, that is correct for upscaling movies. But you can now also play 720p for Blurays, so those with old HDTVs no longer have to suffer. |
