Hi Guys,

You guys with, & those that went to the metric system ( meters, kilograms etc.) why did you leave time out? Couldn't you divide the world into 10 time zones. One hour = 100 min, one minute = 100 seconds.

Because a year has 365,25 days anyways, so the metrification of hours, minutes and seconds would be only half of the pie anyways.
Not to mention that you users of Freddy-Flintstone-Units would whine even louder about metrification

cya, Mithi

PS The french tried to establish a metric time-system after the revolution, but even back then the resistance was to big.

Stupidity mainly... but at least we made it some of the way

Too bad evolution didn't give us 12 fingers as well - metric using the 12 number system would have been pretty neat

In the UK we have a complete mishmash of units....

Petrol is sold by the litre, but car stats quoted as miles per gallon, distance is measured in miles

Orange juice is sold by the litre, but milk by the pint

beer is sold by the pint in pubs, but metric in tinnies & those 25cl bottles from Tesco!

Being an old buqqer (but not quite as old as Maurice) , I  have the air-con in the car set in Farenheit (it winds the kids up!!) , but I DIY in millimeters.

For the satellite to the left, we have kit built in Atlanta....the drawings from those fine chaps are usually dimentioned in inches, & torques in foot-pounds, which we then have to translate to mm & Nm for our French integration team. One of their more recent drawings sets had one set of torque figures in Imperial, and one line below, another set in metric.....but I've finally managed to persuade them to change to metric...(thanks Tommy W., I owe you for that one!).....

And you're confused?????

Nope, they just skip the ":" it's simple hours, minutes.
1300 ist 13:00 (or 1:00 PM) and after 659 comes 700

cya, Mithi

BTW Who, besides the US still uses this AM/PM stuff?

This is the beginners edition - it has the value of each "bit" printed - just add them up (hours on top, minutes below). I'll never admit that I can decode it even without these numbers printed.

This one can't display 24 hours format though, so it's quite useless.

Speaking of which; I would like to have an option to change that to the 24 Hour Clock in the forum.

It was actually the french who invented the metric system we know today. If you ask me it's a zillion times smarter than the weird units that you (americans) and the brits use. The clever thing is, that all units have the same relation between each other. If you multiply one meter by 1000 you have a kilometer etc. And it's the same for distance, weight, volume etc! Inches, feet, miles, pounds, stone, pints, gallons etc. That is just.... neither here nor there. And don't EVEN get me started on the Fahrenheit scale
