| Posted: | | | | You know, I like anime. But I don't keep current at all about it. What I usually do is take advantage of RightStuf.com's clearout sales, which come once a year usually. What I then do is check out what's offered in the special, and use the anime recommendation database to see whether I might like or not. That's about the extent of my knowledge of anime. What's surprising is that even though I don't read much about it and keep up with what's coming out and what not, I have yet to buy something I didn't like. I even remember my first introduction to anime.. Someone had a quote in his signature, can't remember which, and it caught my eyes. Did a little googling, found where it was from, bought it, and I loved every minute of it. The series was "Koutetsu Tenshi Kurumi". From there, and most by accident, I've discovered: Witch Hunter Robin, Escaflowne, Neon Genesis Evangelion (heard they are working on 4 new movies?), Noir, Cowboy Bebop, etc. There are quite a few series I've bought that I've yet to watch: Last Exile, Paranoia Agent, Robotech, Ah My Goddess, Gungrave, Ghost in the Shell, Madlax, Ai Yori Aoshi, etc. RightStuf's sale is on at this moment, and I bought a few complete series from there too (58 titles in all). I'll have a lot of anime watching to do in the coming months |

| Posted: | | | | I'd say that I'm a pretty big fan of anime as well, but like RossRoy I don't really keep very informed. So many of the series that I own have been bought used (probably 80% of them) and I just bought them because the price was right and the covers somehow caught my eye. I've rarely been disappointed with any of them, finding something enjoyable about nearly every one that I've watched. And several of them I thought were downright amazing - one of which RossRoy mentioned, Last Exile, which I thought was beautifully done. I have, at the moment, a huge backlog of anime to watch also (though it hasn't slowed down my purchases any - the backlog grows faster than my viewed list.) I'm currently watching the Inuyasha series (I think I'm on disc #57,012 of that series. ) My current favorites are the Cowboy Bebop stuff, Love Hina (ridiculously silly, but it made me laugh out loud more than once), Saikano (which was odd, but very dramatic), and, though it isn't a series, Grave of the Fireflies. That last one made my cry so hard I had to leave the room before anyone saw. I still haven't seen the last 5 minutes of it yet. And, in case you think that's weird, just let me say that the 2 kids in that movie reminded me very much of my own kids, so that's probably why. Anyway, while I'd love an anime related thread here, and to be able to get info on what's new and all, I'm afraid I might not have too very much to contribute to the conversation. | | | "I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. | Posted: | | | | I'm also an anime-fan, but by strange coincidence I'm also not really up-to-date. Link to DVD-list and choose 'Anime' in the choicebox on the top left. Got hooked up with "Neon Genesis Evangelion" ~10 years ago, love that stuff ever since. Although I'm not to keen for this sweet, girly stuff, if you now what I mean. ^_^ cya, Mithi | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |

On Gilgamesh e.g. I waited for the 'Complete Collection' and paid 36€ (~48USD) vor the whole 26 episodes. Plus they are thinpaks, so I save shelfspace too. Similar for the second season of Gantz 37€. The first season ~55€ and that only because they where dirt-cheap at DVD Soon, had I paid normal streetprices it would have been 80€ or more. cya, Mi-Thinpak-thi PS I don't want to sum up what I paid for the NGE-DVDs back in 2000/2001 | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |

| Posted: | | | | Well, I just put in my order at Rightstuf. Thanks RossRoy. Even buying used I can't often beat these prices. Even got free economy shipping Ordered: Ikki-Tousen 1-4 Texhnolyze 1-6 (with a bonus CD..? Whatever that might be) Tokyo Underground 1-6 Tsukihime, Lunar Legend 1 and 2 Vandread 1,2 and 4 (3 was out of stock. Guess I'll have to find that elsewhere) Vandread Second stage 1-3 Appleseed ( to replace the copy I have which was bought used with a ruined cover.) Total savings of $679. Even if that's off of SRP it's pretty impressive. I see they also have a bi-weekly podcast. Think I'll check that out this afternoon. | | | "I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. | Posted: | | | | I hate Anime. It keeps my wife from paying attention to me, as she should. I do like some series, like Inu Yasha and Hellsing. And I can't say enough about the Vampire Hunter D movies. The wife has made me watch Chobits, Fruits Basket, Blood Plus, Sorcerer Hunters (I can't stand to be in the room when this is on), Noir (kinda liked it) and many others. She gets so wrapped up in her Anime that I'm not allowed to talk or even move. EDIT: Forgot to mention my loathing for Revolutionary Girl Utena. The series is atrocious and the "movie" was a nightmare. | Posted: | | | | I don't know if I would call myself a big fan, but I buy anime on a normal basis (we also keep anime in a separate section of the racks). I won't watch subtitled ones (not into reading movies). I just recently finished S2&3 of InuYasha. Hopefully they will finish putting out the rest of them in season sets... |
