Why Do People Breakdown Box Sets into Individual Discs? |

| Posted: | | | | I just want to point something out and ask peoples opinions about box sets and how some people are breaking them down to each and every disc. They buy lets say a Family Guy Season and instead of just entering it as a seasons collection, they enter disc 1, disc 2, disc 3, etc…etc. Are they doing this just to make the collection “look” bigger then it actually is, or are they detailing the seasons discs because it’s necessary for them to find episodes available on the separate discs? Personally I think its silly, but that’s just my opinion (for what it’s worth). I don’t mean to start and argument about it. I just wonder why some people feel it’s necessary. You look at their collections saying “wow” they have 2,000 (or whatever) DVD’s; that must have taken them a long time. Then you look again and they actually have about half that because they are fudging the numbers. I have a few bonus discs listed separately like "The Making of 300 Exclusive Bonus DVD" from Best Buy, "The Godfather DVD Collection Bonus Materials", "Indiana Jones: Bonus Material" that came in the box set, but I think people go overboard with the breakdowns here. Is it just me? If this is so, then I’m sorry for bringing up the subject. But I was just interested in hearing from other DVD Profiler users on the subject. | | | Last edited: by dpierce |

| Posted: | | | | The terminology used in the program is actually incorrect. It should not say Total DVD's, it should say total PROFILES.

| Posted: | | | | I break it down because "The Batman Collection" actually doesn't tell me anything. What's in it? Batman 1-2? Batman 1-4? Batman 1-5?
Every movie has it's own profile even if two movies are on the same disc (happened with the Addams Family / Values).
TV shows are entered in the form they are packed (usually full or half seasons). I don't break it down to episodes. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | I do the same as DJ Doena. Once you reach a certain number of DVDs it's easier to look it up in DVDP. I also have "senior moments" and don't remember every movie in a particular box set. Once I'm sure I own the movie, by having the box set itemized, I can move furniture to get to the section where the DVD is stored! |

| Posted: | | | | I don't number or count discs within a box set. But for many reasons I prefer to have the info from the individual discs available to me. |

| Posted: | | | | Because it's DVD profiler, not a movie, actor, director or what ever profiler and I want every one of my DVDs profiled.
You got some sort of size problem? I didn't know they are giving out prizes. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. Ineptocracy, You got to love it. I do not count each disc, however, I count only master profiles (single movie profiles are master profiles, btw), so a TV boxset only counts for one profile just like any movie profile. | | | John

That is exactly why I do it... and also number it the same way. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Call me crazy, but I treat box sets of films and TV series differently.
Box set with several movies: Separate profile for each title - number each title/child profile - no number to parent profile
Box set with TV series: Separate profile for each disc - only number the parent profile - no number to child profiles
Why? I want to know how many different "programs" I have, so a box set like "Sam Peckinpah's The Legendary Westerns" counts as 5 (since it contains 5 films) but a TV series like "Grey's Anatomy: Season One" counts as 1 (since it's a coplete season). | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? | Posted: | | | | I only profile movies, because I want to know what movies I have. For tv series, it's enough to know which seasons I have, so I don't break them down to disc level. The only exception in my collection is Inspector Morse, since each "episode" is a full length feature on its own. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

Yes, I am expanding my "numbers" by counting the discs rather than the box. But since most releases are single-disc, I would estimate it increases the collection number by 12% at most, not "doubling" by any stretch. I like to break down my collection to showcase as many of the film titles as possible. I want people to see online what movies I have. And for my database on my computer, the more profiles you have, the more searchable data there is. I have no goals about the number, it would be in my better interest to downplay my collection number, since people close to me tend to criticize the extent of my DVD collection. Come to think of it, I think I will un-number the TV discs and renumber the collection. UPDATE: Changing all the TV box sets to single numbers pulled back my collection total by 9% | | | Last edited: by djskyler |
