Hopefully if it meets with "The Glorificus Gerri" it will get approved and show up in tomorrow's update. And btw, this will be my third disc of this film. |

You're serious?
Pete...you gotta see it! It's a true Sci-Fi masterpiece. If he hasn't seen it after 40 years he might as well stay away from it., Reason? Most people who have never seen it and then do,, Don't get it, find the music a rip off of Car and Cellphone commercials, will find special effects dated to todays standards etc etc.. You have to put yourself in a frame of mind that there was no Apollo 11, or Star Wars in 1968 only movies like Barbarella, and Robinson Crusoe On Mars etc. existed.. I have probably seen 2001 over 50 times in 40 years and one week in 1968 I watched this Cinerama film 7 nights in row, but with a different person each night, which made the 'viewing' exciting for me each of those 7 nights. It was the very first VHS title ( pan and scan/ mono sound and terrible transfer compared to all the other products of this I have also bought over the past 25 years.. Beta/LaserDisc/2 DVD's ), .. Price in 1980? oh.. about $100 'Used' . ( but that's another story for another time.) | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. | Posted: | | | | I must admit... it has my curiosity peaked. I think I will put it in my wishlist... but probably won't buy it till I can find it rather cheap.
I am not too concerned that it will look dated and such as I am just recently getting into classics... and don't seem to have much problem putting myself in the frame of mind of "being in the past". So hopefully I won't have too much trouble with this one. | | | Pete |

In case you hadn't caught on, my handle is from this movie (9g = $9,000). Wait until the new release comes out in October, and you'll probably be able to get the previous release real cheap on e-Bay! | | | Hal | | | Last edited: by hal9g |

| Posted: | | | | I love this movie.
I saw it when it was 20-someodd minutes longer than the version shown in theaters after the first week (and on every tape and disc of it). When I returned to view it with friends a week later, I knew the missing parts...
I suspect most film viewers who avoid slow-moving films will not enjoy this great film. Kubrick and Clarke paced many scenes to feel like the real time involved for the distances to be travelled, the evolution to occur. Time passes for the cinematic experience of time passing.
And yet, 45+ million years will pass in 1/24th of a second...
----
What angered me about this film is that the year it was eligible for Oscars, the Academy Award for makeup went to Planet of the Apes for its lousy ape makeup, rather than the dawn of man sequences for 2001... I suspect the Academy voters thought Kubrick used real early men... | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Actually it is 4 million years --but who's counting.., The other thing to remember as well is there is not a single word of English dialogue until well into the 25th minute.. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird.
