| | Posted: | | | | i recently bought Casshern, a jap live action anime from ebay.
first off it was all foriegn "an import" so the guy lied in the auction
second by using dvd profiler
i typed in the upc and nothing came up. i found it odd
as it turned out the upc was "american" although the sliponcase was from japan.
as i scouted the pics on the japan dvd, which was identical but with a different upc.
2nd the box was for the 3disc set even though he was offering only 1disc version.
that and the dvd label had jerry bruckHemier and columbia tristar pictures credit.
they had nothing to do with this movie
so i would like to thank this program for helping me figure it out. |

| | Posted: | | | | I used to sell some of my DVD I don't want anymore on eBay, but not anymore. There's so many bootleggers out there that you just can't get a decent price out of anything basically. And if I can't get a better price on eBay than what I get at the used DVD shop, why bother? |

Just like anything else, the bottom line is money. When my "buy something everything few months" self reports a "sells dozens of discs a week" it gets laughed off I guess. Although recently I started getting emails saying "congrats, you are now a power-seller. Click here". I haven't sold anything on ebay in 2 years.  |

It does just amaze me that some even list their boots as such, or say outright it's a dvdr, yet don't get shut down. I had an auction for some low budget horror dvds shut down because someone thought it was porn and another shut down on suspision of being fake.  I've never even considered trying to sell a boot so this pissed me off enough to just quit selling, the ever-raising fees got the assist. Now I just trade on a few sites I post at and might sell an OOP title when I hear the better version is coming out, although I've ate a few old discs just to not be bothered with them. |

A couple of weeks ago, I got the complete Chaplin 18 disc collection, currently £140 at HMV, for £24. It was still partly sealed and in immaculate condition. I've no problem with Ebay.
You're right that there's less worth in selling these days, but it isn't because of distrust caused by bootleggers. It's because of an increase in professional sellers, selling sealed new DVDs dirt cheap; it's because DVDs are dirt cheap everywhere else now anyway that the second-hand market is saturated; and it's because all the morons have got wise. I used to be able to upgrade titles and sell the originals for more than retail. Ah, the good old days.
Voltaire's right about the copyright owner having to complain. In the UK, FACT have a team trawling the items and Ebay accept them as a proxy for the studios. They can get listings stopped immediately. I know from bitter experience, when some thick idiot from FACT couldn't get his 'facts' straight and had a couple of my auctions stopped. I was selling my old VideoCDs and he said that all VideoCDs are pirates. I had to give him a history lesson and prove him very wrong, but I still didn't get my fees back. | | | Jon
