| Posted: | | | | Just wondering how many people here buy newer versions of movies they already own.
try to explain what makes it worthwhile for an update if you choose one of the 'Depends' options

| Posted: | | | | for me it depends on the movie or disc content.... Like I just recently upgraded my copy of Dr. Giggles so that I could finally have it in Widescreen... others I will upgrade from a regular release to a Special Edition if I really enjoyed the movie. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | It depends on the movie and disc contents really. I'm wary about repurchasing "newer edition" discs of movies lately, even when they're among my favorites.
I purchased the new "Digitally Remastered" The Shadow Riders - 25th Anniversary Edition recently, which actually has a worse transfer than my ancient Trimark DVD. It literally looks like a VHS tape compared to the clear film transfer on the Trimark disc, and the sound was superior as well. The new bonus features were enlightening, albeit the fact that they stuffed them all onto a single-layer...thus digital artifacting was often heavily evident. The producer was "so happy" (quoted in a featurette on the new disc) to see this new special edition get released. Yeah sure, did he see the quality? And this was an official release? Pathetic. I'll never buy anything else from Cineco. | | | Corey |

| Posted: | | | | Depends on the movie, only would do this for "new" content (Director's Cut, unrated, etc.). Last was a version of Hellraiser which is supposed to be 3 min. longer, had no time to see it til now. | | | |

| Posted: | | | | Different cut of the movie, significantly improved transfer and and abundance of special features might trick me into double-dipping (has done so on numerous occasion already). | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

| Posted: | | | | another question to add on, when you do double dip, do you end up keeping both copies or does it depend on what the new version gives? Like, some movies i'd consider double dipping on have a different cut, but if they dont also include the original cut i'd probably keep both when\if i bought the new version.

| Posted: | | | | I practically never double dip. First of all, my collection is tiny, just three hundred titles or so... There are so many new (new for me) titles I would like to own before even considering double dipping! Secondly, I am mostly interested in the movie/TV show in itself, rather than in bonus material. Third, as to video or audio quality improvements, I'll think about that when I get HD (dunno when though). | | | -- Enry | | | Last edited: by White Pongo, Jr. |

| Posted: | | | | I only keep the older versions if they contain something that the newer version doesn't have. Although I had given away one or two DVDs only to notice later that e.g. the music-only track had been dropped from the newer release Most double-dips involve discs upgraded from movie-only releases to Special Editions, so there is no need to keep two versions. | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. | Posted: | | | | For me it's Never. Although I do like to own the 2 disc special editions, I generally make sure that I sell my older edition, although it's tough to give away (let alone sell) the foolscreen editions that I have !! Still curse the day when I bought the damn things!! | | | |

| Posted: | | | | I voted Never, but that's not 100% true. I've never double dipped on DVD unless I was picking up a boxset where I already owned something in the box. If it's cheaper to get the boxset, then I'll go that route since it's cheaper. For example, I owned Vertigo, Rear Window and Psycho. Then I bought the big Hitchcock box sets that contained those movies. But it was to get the other movies, not to double dip. I've also made a couple exceptions now with HD DVD. I double dipped Batman Begins on purpose because I wanted something to compare against my old DVD. I also double dipped on the Matrix collection because I got in on the pricing mistake at Circuit City (the Matrix Collection on HD DVD for $20 ) I also double dipped on a few on my 5 free movies. But those were free, so I don't count them. I'm sure I'll double dip on a few HD DVDs (the really big titles), but for the most part, I plan not to. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. | Posted: | | | | For me it completely depends on the film. There are movies that I am still sorry I bought the first time and wouldn't buy again. I suppose with HD/Bluera,y since I am looking at a player that does both, I will end up doing some double dipping. Just like when I first moved to DVD I started by converting my VHS movies that I enjoyed the most. Some of my zombie movies will be double dipped when they move to the new medium. I normally try to by the 2 Disc Special Edition the first time so I don't have to buy again. As for my old copies I generally give them to my friends so they can enjoy them. Selling them normally isn't worth the time and hassle. |

| Posted: | | | | i will for a special edition if there is a significant addition of content, or if the movie has been recut for addtional scenes. another reason i've double-dipped in the past was to replace nonanamorphic (grrr!) widescreen copies for enhanced versions since i got my widescreen tv. fortunately some of these, like To Kill a Mockingbird, also include significant additions to the bonus material, which i enjoy watching. old versions are stacking up in the closet, some because there is different content, others because i'm too lazy to do anything with them. and some because i don't want to lose those isolated scores...can we say alien... krik | | | "Vampirism is still not a disease, Julia. | Posted: | | | | I own quite a few double dips. Sometimes I draw the line, but for me it is quality over quantity. The Natural director's cut was a necessity because I love that movie, but I hung onto my original because that's the version I fell in love with. I have made some mistakes...Like I thought there was new material opened it and there wasn't anything new (meet the parents/meet the fockers circle of trust collection). But I withstood the lure of a new Silence of the Lambs. Incorrect framing issues and not enough new content, stopped that. It just boils down to what the movie is. | | | The artist formerly known as TylerDurden_73 |

| Posted: | | | | Never.
But bought Serenity when it was released, later bought the Finnish release for the Finnish subs. Also have Jurassic Park III 2 times, cause i bought it first and bought later a triple pack that was cheaper then buying 1 & 2 separatedly.
Also i've been wanting to buy Battlestar Galactica's Finnish release for the finnish subs. But distributors here are bastards, and cant trust them to release also seasons 3 and 4 later. | | | Last edited: by whispering |
