Yep, today is the 60th birthday of $crooge McDuck. He first appeared in "Christmas on Bear Mountain" that was published 60 years ago today!

So, Happy Birthday!

If Scrooge McDuck would be a dvd collector, he wouldn't be able to do this:

Sure he would - he would just have bought the studios and distributors...

The year I lectured at Comic Con, my family was having lunch with Ted Sturgeon, and Carl Barks was sitting at a table right behind us. I told my (then 7-year-old) son that that was the man who drew Donald Duck. "The good artist?" Yup... He took my sketch pad to Mr. Barks and asked if he could have a sketch. He got not only a drawing of Donald riding a skateboard, but was asked what was my favorite story. Without hesitation, Trevor replied "Lost in the Andes" and Barks promptly drew Donald holding a square egg.

I have every Barks-drawn Scrooge McDuck comic, 80% original printings (the others in reprint) including a nice copy of #2 ("Back to the Klondike"), and all but two volumes of the Carl Barks Library. Scrooge was, in my opinion, the greatest creation of Western Publishing, the comic books factory which ran Dell, Gold Key and other publishers who have brought us not only Disney material, but Little Lulu, and many other great comics.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

I love Barks, but I'm a little disappointed that Rander choose a Don Rosa illustration.

Rosa may be the best Barks-wannabe there is, but he's not the master...
