This may seem as a strange question.. But I was just wondering if any of you were VHS addicts before turning to DVD's, and do you still own any of them?

I still have my 100 vhs tapes.. can't seem to throw them out

I got rid of a lot of them, mostly when I replaced them with DVD, but I can't bear to part with me beautiful South Park box set, they're just too lovely to ever belong to anyone else!

I'm not sure how many I've got, but it must still be in the hundreds if you include all the stuff I've taped off the TV in the past.
I'm slowly transferring the rarer stuff onto DVD and replacing the others with DVD recordings from repeats etc. but there's still a long way to go.
And yes, I have some lovely box sets I'll never part company with either!

I used to collect VHS back in the day... but it didn't last long as all my friends and family would borrow from me and either ruin them or never return them... till I ended up saying the hell with it and stopped collecting.

before I bought my first DVD I promised myself I would never loan out any of my DVDs... friends and family hate it... but that is their problem... of course they are welcome to come watch here any time they want.

I just threw out the last of my VHS tapes when I moved into my new place. I just had 2 Star Wars box sets left. I had forgotten that I had them until I was packing things up, so out they went. I even got rid of my deck that had been sitting in a closet for more than 2 years.

I have memories of visiting friends houses back in the early 80's and their parents had entire walls dedicated to VHS movies.

I wonder what they think of that now?

The same we will think of our DVDs / Blu-rays/ HD-DVD in a decade.

Well, come on, it'll be a lot more depressing to show people your film collection in the future and you point to a boring, grey hard drive sitting in the corner of your room!
And you have to admit - VHS tapes had better spines than DVDs do!

In the future it will be one disc half the size of a mini disc with every movie ever made.  As for VHS I have 3 or 4 left because the movies they contain haven't been moved to DVD yet.  When they are those will be gone as well.  I have always found VHS ugly square boxes with gears.  DVD's have always looked sexy that is why I jumped in when DVD's were still regularly $40.00 and you had to flip them half way through the movie.

And what would you possibly need the disc for??
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

I had over 800 at one time but limited space, the invent of DVD, and the wife has reduced that down to around 150. I still have the ones that I haven't been able to replace on DVD and the ones I just can't bring myself to part with. (I even have 1 Beta tape left, never opened, a few LDs, and some CEDs. LOL)

The only ones I still own are for movies not yet on DVD, and some recordings I made of Northern Exposure episodes (and unlike the NoEx released on DVD, complete with soundtrack)
