| Posted: | | | | Seems an odd name for a Bond movie, but okay. I've also heard that this movie picks up literally like an hour after the ending of Casino Royale. Sounds like it will mainly be a revenge story with him going after the people that blackmailed the girl and investigating the group behind it. | | | "Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men" - Douglas Bader "A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." - Douglas Adams |

| Posted: | | | | From what I had read, the name was taken from a short story that Fleming wrote. I hope that Eon can contain themselves and not immediately jump back into the implausible gadget superman movie mode. Every time we're told that Bond will be taken back to his roots, it lasts about one film and then they revert to adolescent fantasy. |

| Posted: | | | | Ah midnit, you bring up one of my favorite topics. After Thunderball, and to some degree even with that film, the only relevance that Bond had to the books was the TITLES. Some of hi gdgets were fun, the majority were over the top. Bond is about his wit and his wits, more than gadgets.

Or at least that is what it looked like.... if that isn't true! | | | Signature? We don't need no stinking... hang on, this has been done... blast [oooh now in Widescreen] Ah... well you see.... Skip I'll give you one exception, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, the one film that most closely adheres to the source material. Frankly, it's my favorite of all the films, Lazenby notwithstanding. I've seen it so often that he's grown on me. Of course, Diana Rigg certainly didn't hurt! | | | Last edited: by mdnitoil |

Or at least that is what it looked like.... if that isn't true! I think the one you're thinking of is "The Spy Who Loved Me" which when Fleming sold the rights to all his books the contract specifically said they could only use the title but not the story. So it was the first Bond movie that was written completely from scratch. You're right though that "Moonraker" and some others only used small bits of the books' plots and largely went out on their own. Quoting FunkyLA: Quote: Frankly, it's my favorite of all the films, Lazenby notwithstanding. I grew up with Roger Moore as Bond and thought he was great and anyone else playing Bond just wouldn't be the same and nobody could top him. I was really disappointed when they switched to Dalton and then Brosnan and stopped watching at that point. I think I saw bits and pieces of them but the plots and the gadgets were just out of control (Denise Richards as a nuclear physicist?). Casino Royale got me interested in the series again and the comparisons to it being more like the older Sean Connery movies got me intrigued. So I got all 4 boxsets and I've been watching the movies in order and I can definitely say the older Sean Connery movies are way better than any of the others. Casino Royale really did re-capture the feel of the original movies and I hope they can keep that. And the reason for the quote above.. I actually thought Lazenby did a pretty good job and it was too bad he didn't stay on. I remember getting a pretty good laugh at the beginning of the movie when the girl left him and drove away and he says something like "Well, this never happened to the other guy" which I was assuming was a reference to Connery since there weren't any other guys around. | | | "Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men" - Douglas Bader "A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." - Douglas Adams | | | Last edited: by Vega |

| Posted: | | | | Lazenby was quite a shift from Connery, however had I known that Moore was next I would have lobbied hard to keep Lazenby on. Nothing wrong with Moore, per se, but the franchise turned into a cartoon shortly into his run...and it was a long run. |

Nice reference, but no. What Lazenby is referring to is Prince charming. An exquisite comparison. The damsel in distress never stole Charming's horse after he saved her. |
