So, unfortunately I didn't get to see this in theatres so I've been looking forward to the DVD. It's coming at the end of March, but they're doing something very different that I thought was worth noting for old school horror fans. The 2-disc special edition is coming with a Director's Cut version of the film. For new releases this isn't anything out of the norm, but this isn't your ordinary Director's Cut. See, Frank Darabont originally envisioned the film to be like an old school black and white monster flick. And that's exactly what his Director's Cut is going to be. Here it in his own words (his intro from the DVD has been posted on YouTube). I was already excited about this movie (as I've always loved the short story from King) but I think this is a really cool thing to do. I just hope this is included in the hi-def release as well. |
