I have and I find it very weird to see yellow subtitles.
It' the new release of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider steelcase edition.
Is this normal or a production fault? |

Is this normal or a production fault? It's perfectly normal. Basicly the subtitles can have any color the authoring crew chooses. See DVD Demystified if you want to kow more. So far I've seen white, yellow and black ... the latter not being words but "shadows" of the commentary people, as if the would sit in the row in front of the watcher. It's what we're used to, and personally I find they blend with backgrounds far less than white (even where there are still black outlines involved). I can argue either way, as I've seen yellow ones that read better than white and vice versa. It just depends on the backgrounds really, so a bright movie I prefer yellow or outlined. |

They did things like investigate easiest position of the subtitles for reading (which was in the middle/bottom of the screen with different lines left-aligned compared to each other) and added the very helpful feature of different colours for the different speakers. I wish more companies would do that.

But on TV, I have seen a beautiful mix of colors! Swedish TV sometimes does this, when they sub via teletext. You have no doubt that this is for the hearing impaired: While most text is white, everything spoken by the main character/show host (IIRC) is blue, song lyrics are green, and if I'm not mistaken, they use yellow for "non-visible voices", like radios, the other end of telephone conversations and things like that... | | | | The future is here.
