Warner Home Video has announced a 2-disc special edition of  How the West Was Won which stars John Wayne, Henry Fonda, and James Stewart. The set will be available to own from the 26th August, and should retail at around $20.97. As well as a remastered and restored widescreen presentation, the 2-disc release will include a Film Historian Commentary, Dave Strohmaier’s critically-acclaimed, feature-length documentary Cinerama® Adventure, Making of How the West Was Won (Archival featurette), and the original theatrical trailer. An Ultimate Collector’s Edition will also be available for $59.92. This will include the 2-disc special edition, as well as a 20-page theatrical press book reproduction, 10 behind-the-scenes photo cards and 10 postcards, and an exclusive movie poster offer.

Streeting simultaneously will also be a Blu-ray™ Hi-Def ($34.99 SRP) version. Again, all the 2-disc features will be included, along with special Digi-book packaging featuring 32-pages of rare press materials and behind-the-scenes photos. Also, exclusive to Blu-ray is the “SmileBox” version of the film which presents the image with a unique curvature that virtually recreates the true Cinerama® experience in a home theater. The artwork hasn't been revealed for these releases yet, but we'll bring you that shortly.

Notice that we now have name for a new type of case which was introduced with Bonnie & Clyde.

Thanks, heard the rumor about this last year and have been searching for the release for awhile. Appreciate the heads up. Glad to see it's no longer a rumor, can't wait. 

It's only two bad we can't replicate Cinerama at home. Andworse since there only about half-dozen or so Cinerama prints still extant, probably never will be able to, we are going to have to live with one form of distortion or another. HTWW is one of those few remaining Cinerama prints, so is Earthquake, but I think Rollercoaster is gone in Cinerama.

No, I just checkled, I had thought Rollercoaster was filmed in Cinerama but it doesn't apper to have been.

A sure fire double dipper. In fact I might even start a blue-ray collection with it.

I thought  I read somewhere that the original aspect ratio was and is for cinerama 2.59:1  ?
( I'll see if I can find this.. )

(He comments on the unreliability of "numerous websites and other resources that will tell you that Cinerama had an aspect ratio of up to 3:1."    i.e  2.80:1    ?

There are so many web sites devoted to this subject., I may be wrong but where did you find that info out,,  Skip ?     

Yes I see it.. now on their site.. I  have a sneaky feeling that Bill did a typo on that..
But will bookmark this for now and see how this info develops in a few months...
