| Posted: | | | | Hey,
Have decided to buy a new laptop and have shortened the list to two.
Before I order just wondering on anybodys opinions on either:
SONY VAIO BX51VN - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/137502/show_product_overview
FUJITSU SIEMENS V5505 - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/139120/show_product_overview
Thanks, J |

The Sony is far superior in all areas that count. I'd go with the Sony for sure. More hard drive space, faster CPU, faster front side bus, double the ram (which Vista will definately need and benefit from). | | | Last edited: by icefyre |

| Posted: | | | | If they have Vista, be sure to run the Vista Experience score - it'll break down the different aspects of the laptop for you and allow you to run a comparison. Don't have Vista here at work so I can't give you the steps on performing it.
I recently helped my dad pick out a new laptop, this helped a lot in determining the strengths and weaknesses of the ones on display.
Note that I've heard a lot about how the nvidia 9xxx chip is slower than the 8xxx chip so keep that in mind. |

On a side note, yes a lot of the newer 9x cards are slower than 8x. I run an 8800GTS 320MB and it blows a lot of 9x series out of the water... but the high end 9x series are nice... also carry a nice price tag though.
I have tested Vista to the max on my new machine, and can guarantee you will want the higher specs for your laptop. |

| Posted: | | | | My brother (who builds PC's as a side business and an avid gamer) was going to buy my year-old laptop from me and it has the Intel graphics chip but he said that he couldn't get any recent games to install because they didn't like the chip.
I don't use it for gaming (I've got a real PC for that) so it never hindered me. |

I've looked more into the Sony Vaio's and have come up with two more:
VAIO BX51 - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/137502/show_product_specifications#specifications
VAIO NR21Z - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/139570/show_product_specifications#specifications
It's a £70 difference between the two, but thats gonna get me:
3GB vs. 2GB (RAM) 250GB vs. 160GB (hard driver) T8100 vs. T7250 (Intel Duo) PM965 vs. GM965 (Intel chipset) NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT vs. Intel GMA X3100
I'm guessing the slighty more expensive one, right? |
