Maybe so. But the point isn't so much that she's smoking while pregnant, although I personally feel that's just irresponsible, but that she's claims to be concerned about the adverse effect road construction could have on her baby while puffing away.

If you don't see the irony in that I guess I can't do much but shrug.

People knew smoking was bad for when I was kid and that was seven decades ago. It is new it is just a bunch of lawyers found a way to make money on it.

If you want to worry about something try the 80,000 pollutants we've crested and 1200 new ones each year. The antibiotics and drugs that get dumped in the water system that are not tested for. Streams that were free over 30 ywars age, 80% are new polluted.

Worry about the plastic bottles of water that set in hot weather and petroleum from those bottles that seep into that water.

Half of the food the US consumes is now imported, and where do the chemical companies are dumping chemicals they can't sell here in the US.

I think about that while I smoke my pipe.

This is rationalization I just don't get.  If you are concerned about all those other things, why would you smoke?

There are 599 additives approved by the US Government for use in the manufacture of cigarettes.  When burned, according to most sources, those additives create 4000 chemical compounds, many of which are toxic and/or carcinogenic.  Cigarette smoke contains forty-three known carcinogens.

Don't get me wrong,  I don't care if you smoke.  It just rings hollow, when someone who pumps those kinds of chemicals into his body on a daily basis, tells me I should worry about all that other stuff.  JMHO.

I think what he means is that compared to the things that get done to us (and the world in general), the things we do to ourselves are hardly worth mentioning.

And, if we trust our tv and newspaper, everything on earth give cancer. So why stop doing something that is a pleasure for me, since I have 90% chance to die from cancer anyway with our without tabacco.
