| Posted: | | | | Well, I just got back from seeing The Dark Knight, unfortunately, all the IMax shows were sold out. Still, I had a good time, the two and a half hours breezed by quicker than I thought it would. I enjoyed the pacing and tyhe time given to all the characters, it was just about perfect. Spoiler: (Select to view)I loved the flipping of the 18 wheeler, that was one cool stunt. I also loved Harvey Dent's "Two-face" makeup. It was gross and cool at the same time. Spoiler: (Select to view)A little shocked at how many of the characters they killed out. The tribute at the end credits roll to Heath Ledger and the other person whose name escapes me was a classy touch. All in all, I would definately reccomend everyone see this film. Now, I put a spoiler warning in the topic title itself, so, don't get all pissy at me! Movie gets way, way, way up! | | | Signature banned: Reason out of date... | | | Last edited: by NewEnglander |

| Posted: | | | | Just saw it. It is on par with the first, if not a bit better. My wife had some problem with some dialogue being hard to hear over the soundtrack/effects. Best movie I have seen this year, and maybe in the last 10 months! Bobb | | | Do Cheshire Cats drink evaporated milk? |

| Posted: | | | | Saw it yesterday. Followed someones recommendation that this really should be seen in IMAX and am very glad I did. Interesting how the yapplied the varying aspect ratio throughout the movie; my friend was obviously so invoilved in the movie that when I told him he said "they did what?", as he hadn't noticed! I think it was a great movie. More of a crime story than a "superhero" movie; there isn't actually all that much Batman in this. The problems "we" (my friend and I) had with this: Why would the joker tell the police who he's going to kill, and that in such complicated way?The End. I did not like how Batman was made the hunted. I understand the context of the story and that Bruce made the decision that way, it just wasn't what I wanted to see.The killing of that black mob boss was a little unexplained. He is threatened to have his cheek cut open and a second later he's dead? The stroy of the Joker remained "too unresolved". Are we just to suppose he's picked up by the SWAT team for prosecution? Did they set him up for another film that way (which sadly can't happen)? It fewlt incomplete to me.Other than that it was a great, great film. The Joker was exquisitly vicious (was he like that in the comic books? I read them in the 70s and don't recall him quite that mean). Harvey Dent was very well done as Two-Face. I enjoyed how the screen opened up in particular moment (creating an image of what, 1.33:1?) in order to show us much more of what's going in; although it occasionally would simply show lots of dead space... Another from me. | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

I haven't yet seen the film, so I am lacking a bit. But I will say that your first too points are completely consistent with the development of Batman and Joker in comic book history, Sadly, I am sure we will see more Joker but it just can't be Heath, obviously, at the sme time the filmmakers have a full-range of villains to select from before coming back to a Joker.

The Joker seeks chaos. Letting them know his targets and showing them they can't do anything about it achieves that goal. The complicated part is what entertains the Joker. It's part of his game. The killing of that black mob boss was a little unexplained. He is threatened to have his cheek cut open and a second later he's dead? The Joker is insane. He was taunting the mobster with intention of killing him all along. Remember, out of all the mobsters, he was the only one really threatening the Joker. Quote: The stroy of the Joker remained "too unresolved". Are we just to suppose he's picked up by the SWAT team for prosecution? Did they set him up for another film that way (which sadly can't happen)? It fewlt incomplete to me. The Joker was never killed in the comic books (until "The Dark Knight Returns", IIRC). He would always be caught by Batman and sent off the Arkham Asylum, until he would breakout or be broken out by another villain. My bet is that they intended him to return at some point in that manner (and still might, if a few years pass and another actor can take up the challenge). Quote: The Joker was exquisitly vicious (was he like that in the comic books? I read them in the 70s and don't recall him quite that mean). The comic book versions of the Joker varied in his violence. The early years (like the TV show) he might have been a goofy trickster, but in the 80s and onward, he was a sociopath. He put Batgirl in a wheelchair with a bullet to the spine and murdered the second Robin. BTW, speaking of Batgirl, did anyone notice how they kept any clear view of Barbara Gordon anyway from the camera? Anytime they showed the Commissioner's daughter, the view was obstructed or her mother was hiding her face. I wonder if it was intentional to setup a future Batgirl scenario and they didn't want to predetermine how the girl would look. | | | Last edited: by synnerman |

The Joker is insane. He was taunting the mobster with intention of killing him all along. Remember, out of all the mobsters, he was the only one really threatening the Joker. Yes, I understand why he got killed and the taunting was just Joker having fun. I was just slightly irritated that the knife was in the gangsters mouth one moment and then he was dead the next. After all, cutting the chin open is painful and bleeds a lot, but will not kill instantaneously. Quote: The Joker was never killed in the comic books (until "The Dark Knight Returns", IIRC). I guess actually seeing him in the back of a SWAT car or in the asylum would have helped me here a little. Quote: The comic book versions of the Joker varied in his violence. It's just been a long time for me since I read any of it (25 years or so), that memory is rather blurry. I do remember that Joker and Two-Face were in there a lot. Well, if Nolan is game for another, I certainly am... | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

| Posted: | | | | Achim, I think that Nolan and Bale signed a three picture deal to fo Batman, so, they should be doing a third. Bale may have even signed a 4 picture deal, I can't honestly recall. I am almost positive on the three though. | | | Signature banned: Reason out of date... |

After all, let's remember who the target audiences were for the DC and marvel coimments...a good bit younger and more naieve than the adults who by and large get excited about seeing their old "heroes" brought to life.

| Posted: | | | | BIG weekend for receipts... The Dark Knight Reigns: $155.3 Mil Weekend some areas of the 'net' I'm reading is the comparison of Heath Ledger to (the 50's) James Dean.. Could Ledger be a candidate of poster boy for the 21th Century of young fallen screen hero's ?? | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. | Posted: | | | | As a reader of comic books for over 30 years IMHO they have really gotten a bunch of things correct in the last two Batman movies Spoiler so if you have not seen the film yet, "Move along this is not the post you see"k. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 0 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 Holy Spoiler Batman! One thing about the Joker that really struck home was the way he kept changing the origin of how he got his scars. This is right in line with the way the Jokers origin has been played out over they years. (Though Alan Moore's "The Killing Joke" the one where he cripples Batgirl, is the best Joker origin story ever written.) I also appreciated that Nolan shot all the big action sequences in IMAX so even on the regular screen they were so much clearer than the first movie. I was sort of bummed that they killed off Harvey Dent/Two-Face, but than in Comic Books & Soap Operas death is not always fatal. I also appreciated the death of Rachel, it gave the change in Harvey Dent a good basis. Also she would have been a problematic character to keep in the future movies, once again IMHO. I recall (though it may not be correct) that nobody checked for a pulse. I therefore figured he'd probably just get up while the cops were after Batman. That ties in with the whole thing of Batman running... he feels responsible for what happened to Harvey, so wants to give him the chance to get away without people seeing what he'd become. I think Bruce's/Batman's guilt regarding Two-Face is too strong to be thrown to the wayside. With the Joker he follows his usual morality, but with Two-Face he'd always hold out hope for his salvation. | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) |

Quote: I also appreciated the death of Rachel, it gave the change in Harvey Dent a good basis. I agree again. Knowing what harvey would become I kept thinking "how will they have him turn from good to evil in a short time...?". I was eventually not disappointed and found his turn believable. | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) | | | Last edited: by nuoyaxin |

I must have missed the others, I only remember the stroy about his father putting a smile on his face... Can you/someone refresh my memory? He told a different story in the ballroom during Dent's fundraiser, about how his wife's face was scarred and he scarred his to match, but she was disgusted and left him. |

| Posted: | | | | Saw the movie couple hours of go (sadly no IMAX anywhere near me).
anyway hear are some initial thoughts,
Heath Ledger is the best on screen joker bar none. He takes the character to an exciting new level. I remember when I when I first heard of his casting in the role, my thought was WTF?.
Why such a quick exit for two-face? I believe there is a possibility for a return, because hey, I thought Gordon was really dead as well.
My biggest gripe wit the movie, I didn't care much at all for the CGI two-face, some make-up IMO would have been much more appropriate.

That was my one complaint as well. Besides being too distracting, I kept wondering how he would be able to move at all with burns that bad. I lightly burn my finger and it hurts for a few days. Burns like that and you would need to keep me on morphine for the next three years. Simple "Freddy Kruger"-style burns would have worked just as well. |

| Posted: | | | | I quite liked the Two-Face scarring. It seemed in keeping with previous versions I've seen. It also gives a great contrast. The early profile shots, he still looks handsome. You then get the contrast of that scarring, which makes you flinch and want to look away. | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) |
