| Posted: | | | | Since I've come across a sale of CRiterion Collection dvds, I was wondering what are the best ones - i.e. must haves?
I have a handful but it would be useful to get others opinion - e.g. they have a single disc version of Brazil but I don't know if I should look for a different version. | | | Paul |

| Posted: | | | | I don't know if the 3 disc version of Brazil is still available. But if it is, I'd go for that one instead.
Generally, if Criterion have released a film, that'll be the best out there - although be warned, a lot of early Criterion releases are non-anamorphic. | | | Last edited: by northbloke |

Unfortunately, a few favorites, like the two John Woo films, are out of print.
As for "Brazil", the 3-Disc set from Criterion is definitely the way to go. Fantastic extras, from the studio cut that would have destroyed the film to a great documentary about the battle to release it, the 3-Disc version is worth owning. |

| Posted: | | | | Well, I believe the 3-disc set is still available and it is indeed great. However, make sure you get the re-release as the original was non-anamorphic. | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

Anything under spine 47 ("Insomnia"), aside from the re-releases, will be non-anamorphic. Here is the list from the Criterionforum.org (In-Print Non-Anamorphic Widescreen Films): 050: And the Ship Sails On 034: Andrei Rublev 040: Armageddon 060: Autumn Sonata 038: Branded to Kill 073 Cleo from 5 to 7 (rerelease in Varga boxset is anamorphic) 026 The Long Good Friday (Anchor Bay's release is anamorphic) 107 Mona Lisa (Anchor Bay's release is anamorphic) 018 The Naked Kiss 059 The Night Porter 007 A Night to Remember 029 Picnic at Hanging Rock 019 Shock Corridor 045 Taste of Cherry 037 Time Bandits (Anchor Bay's release is anamorphic) 039 Tokyo Drifter 074 Vagabond (rerelease in Varga boxset is anamorphic) 010 Walkabout 119 Withnail and I |

| Posted: | | | | If you are into David Cronenberg, "Videodrome" is a very nice release. And as far as I know, it's the only release that contains the uncut version. Packaging is nice also, looking like an old VHS tape. | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm

all from CD Wow since they are 40% off, unfortunately they don't have all the criterion's available.. If you are interested in "Divorce Italian Style", Criterion also released Germi's follow-up film "Seduced and Abandoned" and similar-in-tone dark comedy "Mafioso." |

| Posted: | | | | Personally, in my opinion anything by Kurosawa is a must have. There's a reason that Seven Samurai has the spine number 2. Oh, and the recent re-release is outstanding! |

Generally true, but some releases like Picnic at Hanging Rock have far better DVD releases out there now. These are the Criterion's that I currently own: Armageddon Brazil (3-disc box set) Carnival of Souls Dazed and Confused Equinox Insomnia The Seventh Seal Slacker Solaris Straw Dogs The Tin Drum All of those are stellar releases, though Armageddon isn't anamorphic enhanced. | | | Corey | | | Last edited: by Katatonia |
