State pension fund $44 Billion in debt, worst in country. Cook County
(Chicago) sales tax 10.25% highest in country. (Look'em up if you want).
Chicago school system one of the worst in country. This is the political

Change??? Obama???? Now there is a misnomer, if there ever was one.

Obama's economic team is made up of Robert Rubin, Lawrence Summers, Paul Volker. All highly respected Washington veterans. Politics as usual, no change there

Obama's VP choice. Senator joe Biden another somewhat respected Washington veteran. More politics as usual, no change here either.

Obama...Change...Fat Chance. The only change from Obama will be that he leaves in your pocket.

But if McCain gets elected and subsequently dies, that would make Palin the President of the United States.

If McCain becomes President, it's time to move to Canada.  The only worse thing that could happen is if McCain dies and Palin becomes President.  I can't think of a worse fate.

FYI: This thread will be politically charged, no red arrows should be given out except for rule violations.

I'm surprised out of 330 million people these two are the only runners for President of the United States..  Between your upcoming election, economic 'big time' worrys, and the War in the middle east, I see big change alll right but not good change..

We are deep horse pucky no matter who wins.
Neither party been financially responsible in my life time.

Here is the only buy out plan I've seen that I like.

I believe it worth a try.

OK.....here's a plan I could live with.

I'm against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.

Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a We Deserve It Dividend.

To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S.
Citizens 18+.

Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child.
So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up..

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00.

My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It Dividend.

Of course, it would NOT be tax free.

So let's assume a tax rate of 30%.

Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes.

That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.

But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket.

A husband and wife team has $595,000.00.

What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?

Pay off your mortgage - housing crisis solved.

Repay college loans - what a great boost to new grads

Put away money for college - it'll be there

Save in a bank - create money to loan to entrepreneurs.

Buy a new car - create jobs

Invest in the market - capital drives growth

Pay for your parent's medical insurance - health care improves

Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean - or else

Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who
lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting
back. And, of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.

If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it...instead of
trickling out a puny $1000.00 ("vote buy") economic incentive that is being
proposed by one of our candidates for President.

If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+!

As for AIG - liquidate it.

Sell off its parts.

Let American General go back to being American General.

Sell off the real estate.

Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.

Here's my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn't.

Sure it's a crazy idea that can "never work."

But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!

How do you spell Economic Boom?

I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion

We Deserve It Dividend more than do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC.

And remember, The Birk plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5
Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.

Ahhh...I feel so much better getting that off my chest.

Kindest personal regards,

Birk

It sounds good, I like money :-)

But your math is off.  85 billion divided by 200 million only comes out to $425.00 a person.  After 30% taxes we'd be at $297.50  I could use the money but I couldn't pay my mortgage off...

I realize this was a joke but can we all say FUZZY MATH??? The correct answer is that this "plan" yeilds only $425.00 per adult, not $425.000.00.  Make sure you use a calculator that can handle all the zeros.

For those people worried about what happens if Sarah Palin were to become President, just remember this...Barak Obama is no more qualified to be President today than Sarah Palin.  So if you do not vote for John McCain because he MIGHT not complete his term and you'd have an unqualified VP take over, voting for Obama would get you that same level of competence on Inauguration Day.

I'm more worried about the guy in the TOP job than I am about what happens in the event that the VP has to become President.

The "logic" of voting for an unqualified Obama to be President because an unqualified Palin MIGHT someday become President escapes me.

No. What they did was take advantage of a flawed system (beginning in the 90's and exacerbated in the current administration) by selling bad debts. Those debts continued to go bad, got worse and they (the CEO's and top Executives) were aware of the coming problem. They continued on the same path anyway. Wall street greed is what caused this.

I agree with that completely.  I am so fed up with both party's that this will be the first time I vote Independent.  I know many people feel that this is throwing my vote away (I used to feel that way as well) but I just can't, in good conscience, support either of the major party's any longer.

The flaw in the system is the Federal Reserve. Those money grubbing power mongers have absolute free reign with no Government oversight what-so-ever. They are the one's that changed the rules of the game allowing AIG to make the mess they did in the housing market...where they shouldn't have been in the first place. I say we nationalize the Federal Reserve just as we did Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Take back their fleet of Lear jets, Billions in real estate, their Monets & Van Goghs and sell off the assets. We need to take our country back from these wolves in sheeps clothing.

My information would force me to agree that the seed was planted during Carter's administration but it didn't take root until the 90's while Clinton was in office and it was exacerbated during the current administration. So, if you want to point a finger, technically, you could throw it back to Carter but the last two administrations decided to feed the thing.

Paulson should be shot! To let him write anything on this is ludicrous. Personal accountability is needed or it WILL happen again.
