The novelist passed away in Los Angeles after a private battle with cancer. His family said the death was unexpected.
"While the world knew him as a great story teller that challenged our preconceived notions about the world around us — and entertained us all while doing so — his wife Sherri, daughter Taylor, family and friends knew Michael Crichton as a devoted husband, loving father and generous friend who inspired each of us to strive to see the wonders of our world through new eyes," his family said on his site.
"He did this with a wry sense of humor that those who were privileged to know him personally will never forget."
A private funeral service is planned. |

| Posted: | | | | R.I.P. I didn't realize he had cancer, but I guess it was kept private. I loved reading his novels, and all the films he was involved in. | | | Corey |

| Posted: | | | | His medical degree probably did him more good as a writer and he probably made more money than he would have had he ever practiced medicine. And, he never had to deal with patients dying on him.
A truely talented man who will be greatly missed. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges. I don't have to show you any stinking badges. DVD Profiler user since June 15, 2001 |

| Posted: | | | | That just brought my day down. Like others I did not know he had the big "C." He really did keep it private. Liked much of his work. Remember reading The Andromeda Strain not too long after it came out. He really had quite a long and interesting career. |
